Today should be interesting again. I did hear Terry’s interview yesterday. Rick got a little defensive. So I wonder if they are going to be good friends now.

Anything else going to break today?

    • Best defense = good Offense
      1:13 pm October 9, 2015 Permalink

The Pitino/Meiner interview was contrived. The questions were provided to Meiner to ask Pitino and Both we’re coached in the asking and response.
Every defense attorney worth his salt portrays his client as the circumstantial innocent victim, and the true victim is the one that is put on trial.
It is also a strategy to get the offender in front of a camera and microphone to try and smooth the public sentiment toward the offender, making them seem as vulnerable and as human as you or I.
There were too many questions Meiner asked that allowed Rick to appear as the victim against the NCAA, and his fight to keep the rules in line, which Meitner served up too often. There were many questions asked, that any reporter, anywhere would have followed up and drilled much further down, but Meiner did not. In fact, Meiner kept rick from answering questions, and let Rick talk without answering any questions, allowing rick to furry her bolster his image to the audience.
This is a very old trick for damage control to the image of people and companies.
Louisville has many, many fans that are sick of the mess. They are tired of being singled out for the sordid behavior that has been well documented, they are tired of the lies, they are tired of brining in felons and thugs to bolster the sports programs. I am married to a U of L alum, she is sick of the notoriety the sports program that has cast a shadow over the academics.
I know many others as well. Louisville may suffer in the future with such public opinion coming forth everyday. The Sports Illustrated article that went out today is just the beggining. It will get worse unless something is done.

What good would resigning do? I mean, other than give his school some credibility, and ease the NCAA sanctions.

The reason to resign would be to take responsibility for what you allowed to happen on your watch. Pitino of course would never have the integrity for that, so the real question is, will they get rid of him?

Eddie Sutton was forced to resign because an ASSISTANT COACH sent cash to ONE recruit’s dad (allegedly). The NCAA then put UK on probation (no live tv, no postseason, loss of scholarships, etc).

Isn’t his worse? This was something ongoing..over 4 years. And UK had the good sense to can their coach. U of L, is instead being defiant. I don’t know what the NCAA will do, but the old NCAA would have crucified them.

    • J-Dub421
      10:58 am October 9, 2015 Permalink

Karen Sypher didn’t really have anything to do with anyone other than Pitino. In this situation we’re talking about hooker parties for 17-18 year olds. A mother might be able to overlook a coach that had an affair, but this??

    • ukjaybrat
      11:05 am October 9, 2015 Permalink

Agreed. it’s a little different. funny thing is Jason Anderson was arguing with a former louisville football player on this subject. the former player said that there’s no way a parent would send their kid to play for a coach like that. And Anderson kept insinuating that just because a coach makes bad decisions doesn’t mean he can’t learn from them.

He tried to reverse the scenario saying the player has surely made bad decisions, but he’s learned from them and made him a better parent… anybody else think that is really messed up logic? to me, there is a really big difference between smoking pot in college and having an affair and now this…

could this be a blessing in disguise for UL? As long as UK has Cal and UL has Rick, UK will always be better (which is why i want them to keep Rick). Rick has reached a status where he would be really hard to fire based on wins/loses, much like Denny Crum was toward the end of his time. This would give Jurich an excuse to get rid of Rick and bring in someone that could properly use the ACC and YUM! Center as the recruiting tools that they are.

    • BobKYCats
      10:44 am October 9, 2015 Permalink

Just hypothetically, who could they possibly get that would be better adapted to compete against Cal and UK?

Maybe Sean Miller, but I doubt he’d leave Arizona for UofL.

He’s a great coach, but the jury’s out on him as a recruiter. However, I agree with the gist of an up-and-comer approach.

    • matt
      11:13 am October 9, 2015 Permalink

I don’t know who would be best as far as “best suited to compete against Cal” because I think Cal is the best at what he does. I just think this would be a chance for UL to get our of the sinking Pitino ship. If I was a UL fan I would want to get rid of Rick because that is the only silver lining I can see. If they keep Rick then they keep a coach that makes their program a punchline and a coach that can’t keep up with current recruiting.

    • ukjaybrat

my sister is pretty meh about it. brother and law and his cousin are two of the biggest louisville homers you will ever meet and both hate UK and everything about them/us.

Both of them are pretty much rolling with the punches:
“Our recruiting won’t suffer. we’re gonna get more recruits bc now we got hoes!”
      “L1C4nicate. AWESOME!”
“I’m even MORE of a Louisville fan now! This story is legendary”

They are totally kidding of course. But just so we are clear that not ALL Louisville fans are as delusional as some of the morons we see on the internet.

I seriously think that if I were a Louisville fan (God forbid), I would want to see Pitino and Jurich go and let the program kind of start over.

    • ukjaybrat
      11:39 am October 9, 2015 Permalink

Reading their serious side, I think they are pretty much done with Pitino at this point. But they really don’t see (ignorance/bliss?) the corruption that Jurich has fostered. They love what he’s done there. To be frank, yeah, he’s done a lot. hell a decade or so ago and they were still in CUSA picking up scraps leftover from the power 5 conference in every major sport. a few more decades ago and their football program was on the brink of being shut down. Now they are a power basketball team and until this year were a contender in football. not to mention the facilities he’s put in place. So he HAS done quite a bit.

But at what cost? Pitino? Petrino? who knows what else he’s done under the table in any other sport that gets about zero TV time.

Thought about calling in to make this point, but I don’t have time to sit on hold. My point is that UL fans are getting their hopes up after the “former UL player” made the statement that there were only girls in bikinis, and that is “probably all Lyles saw as well.” However, if you’ve read the book, Lyles interaction with Katina and Shay didn’t even happen in the dorm. Those girls were sent to his hotel to service him and his guardian. The gist of that allegation, according to the Lyle leak, is true.

    End of statement.
