    So Humphries considering pro-ball?
Remember Jorts? He was twice the player Humphries is right now and look how he bounced around trying to find a home; he’s in Japan now.
    I’ll retire to Bedlam.

    • RealCatsFan

Difference is that Jorts had his sights solidly on the NBA. Hump is thinking about playing down under.

    • Realme
      10:21 am April 7, 2017 Permalink

Going home, playing for 6 figures, getting more playing time. I can see why that might be more appealing than staying in college overseas. If he thinks he can improve enough for the NBA, he’d stay. If not, why not go ahead and go? I hope he stays of course.

    • J-Dub421

Isn’t Jorts in China? And he makes like 2 million per year there. Not a bad deal.

Osaka Evessa in Japan. Salary 789,000.

He was in China a few years ago then. Either way, that’s more than I make in a year.

789,000 isn’t bad for a few months of work! Plus he racked up more in previous years at other places. Ol Jorts isn’t doing too bad.

That’s also quite an experience living overseas. That will make a grown up out of you in a hurry! Think about the stories he will be able to tell a few years down the road. I think it would be cool to be immersed in a culture like Japan – especially for that kind of money!

So what about this sentence should be moderated? (added “.”s to keep from being zapped)

    • RealCatsFan
      10:25 am April 7, 2017 Permalink

I don’t know if it’s every n’th post, because I posted the exact same phrase, even imbedded in a different context, and it moderated both until I tricked it by adding the periods.

Leaf, Welsh, and Alford all played better in both games against us than Lonzo Ball did. His father is a delusional idiot.

    • RealCatsFan
      10:48 am April 7, 2017 Permalink

I’m surprised that Alford has not told Ball (the elder) to shut his yap. I would tell him if he has any hope of me letting his other kids play for UCLA, he better tone it down – now. It has to be a distraction for the team at this point.

I coach youth sports, and parents like this are poison to team chemistry. Everything is about them, and this kind of attitude tends to filter down to the kids.

I don’t think he’s that stupid. I think he is a pathological liar who only wants to keep his sons (and himself) in the public eye, and is willing to do or say anything to accomplish that. But no question it would be harmful to his sons and their teams.

Recruiting was always Tubby’s shortcoming. He really needs someone on his staff who is good at it – kind of his own personal Orlando Antigua.

    • Sentient Third Eye
      11:28 am April 7, 2017 Permalink

I don’t think Tubby really liked elite players because he was never able to get them to buy into his system. He had at best mixed results with the high-profile recruits he did get.

    • J-Dub421
      11:40 am April 7, 2017 Permalink

Different coaches do better with different types of players. For instance, Pitino does well with scrappy players and “projects” but is terrible with one and dones. Cal is clearly the best coach in the country with top level talent.

    • Sentient Third Eye
      11:50 am April 7, 2017 Permalink

One thing Tubby and Pitino have in common is a system that takes a full season to learn, so unless a kid is going to be there for at least two years, his impact is going to be diminished.

  16. secrick
    11:25 am April 7, 2017 Permalink

Tubby let his son coach with him and may still be i don’t know. If he had gotton a good recruiter like REALCATSFAN said above he would have been better off.

  17. Realme
    11:45 am April 7, 2017 Permalink

So if you’re Cal and you get to strike 3 refs for the season, who do you pick? Higgins, Aires (Or Ailes, I forget), Sirmons? Only other one I think of would be that guy who tried to eject an announcer from a non ky game a couple years ago, but I don’t remember his name.

    • J-Dub421
      11:54 am April 7, 2017 Permalink

I would ditch Higgins for sure, and probably Ayres, and maybe Valentine, or Sirmons. A few years ago I would have said Shows, but he’s actually getten a little better.
