Wolf of Wall Street didn’t even belong in this bracket and it made it all the way to the E8. I love Goodfellas, but it doesn’t belong in the Final Four, same with Forrest Gump.
THEN I figured out why this movie bracket has turned out just so completely wrong.

Shannon is just a complete moron when it comes to movies. and Drew is so intent on Forrest Gump winning that he is voting for the underdog in every other matchup hoping there will be no one left to face off with Gump. Thus, we have a bracket shaping up where all the best movies throughout history have been knocked out in place of a bunch of movies that were good but not really great.

We should do our own show thread bracket next time. I bet we could do better than the NCAA committee or the KSR guys.

Since summer is slow, maybe they should do best TV shows. TV Land is showing old M*A*S*H episodes from 6pm to 8:30 pm, from the early shows with Trapper John and Henry Blake.
Could be the best TV show of all time. Of course it was mostly before 1980, so……..

their 1980 rule is so dumb. let’s not include some really great movies just because a few people might not have seen them. that line of thinking is just completely thawed. EVERYONE has either already seen godfather and jaws or they should not be voting on a movie bracket in the first place. simple as that.

STD hasn’t seen Star Wars!!! Any of the Star Wars movies!!! Or any Lord of the Rings!!! Or any Harry Potter!!! He derides three of the top selling franchises of all time as nerd stuff!!! Shannon shouldn’t even be allowed to vote based on that alone.

I continue to have no problem with the 1980 cutoff because it limits the field to a particular time period just like “Best albums of the 1970’s” That doesn’t imply that there are not great songs in the 60s or 80s, it is simply delineating a time frame.
However I totally agree that if you haven’t seen the Godfather you have no rights as a human being. Even more pertinent; if you have seen the Godfather and didn’t like it, sterilization should be a serious consideration.

STD, by ignoring some of the great cinema in those 3 franchises shows himself to be a complete buffoon… especially considering his love of the turd that is “professional” wrestling.

STD was trying to argue that Gremlins is a great movie. No. Just no. I loved it as a child and have some nostalgia for it, but let’s not pretend it’s in the same class as movies like The Departed.

We’ll have plenty of talent, but this year will be a definitive answer to how important experience / lack of experience is.

I’m expecting the team to resemble the 2014 team. Very immature and up and down in the regular season, with hopefully a similar run in the tournament. And of course, hopefully an epic team coming together the following year! πŸ™‚

A lot will depend on the overall landscape in college basketball. Will there be any other blockbuster teams with a lot of returning talent that made a deep run this past year? I think UNC will be solid, but not nearly as strong as last year. Duke will be really good, and Kansas will also be very solid.

SEC might be a lot stronger this year, so we may lose a lot of road games, a’la 2011.

Funny that Matt mentioned Trump talking about Kim Jung Un – I commented about it on another thread and said that I was dismayed that Trump said it would be “an honor” to meet with him. Basically, it legitimizes a ruthless despot who should be shunned by the entire world – it is a bit like saying it would be an honor to meet a notorious historical figure like Hitler or Charles Mansion. You can say that it might be revealing or interesting to meet someone like that, but saying it is “an honor” puts them on a higher plane. You say something like that if it is someone that you respect and admire, not someone who is evil and notorious.

    • runningunnin.454
      10:59 am May 3, 2017 Permalink

I think it’s a stretch to say that Trump genuinely admires Un; seems it was a strategic attempt to assuage Un’s obvious inferiority complex and stop his saber rattling. Don’t think it will work, however, because Un is totally detached from reality, to the point that he doesn’t realize that if he were to attack the U.S. with nuclear weapons….South Korea would become an island.

It is good diplomacy. Totally unexpected from Trump. He is , as mentioned, appealing to the EGO of KJU. We have seen more positive movement from China with regards to NK in the past 2 months than we have in the past 20 years.
I don’t like Trump but this actually a decent attempt at solving a serious international issue. Again, very surprising and unexpected.

It’s possible that Trump is throwing this out there as an attempt to get the little fat guy in the White House so he can verbally beat him up in private.

I’m not a big fan of Trump either, but I am just hoping/praying that he surrounds himself with intelligent people who have the best interests of the nation/humanity in mind, and he manages to do some good things without screwing things up. Let’s just say I am skeptical, but too early to judge him completely at this point in time.

I hope Diallo comes back just so that the always complaining portion of BBN will have ended up losing their minds for no reason. Although if he does, he’ll probably be the guy they decide to have unreasonable expectations for, and dog him with constant criticism.

most of those folks also thought we should have fired cal in 2014. then he turned around and put together one of the best seasons in the history of the sport the following year. those are also the same people that bash recruits on twitter and probably cause us to lose more recruits to duke/kansas than anything else. those people are freaking scum. so who cares.

Rick it sounds like SKJ just needs to show Cal he’s working hard this summer. The departing players seemed hint that he has the skill if he’d just commit to the gym. I think your prediction is right, because I think he will have had a meeting with Cal where they talked about just these things, before officially announcing the other day that he’s definitely staying.

We really need Johnson and Bamba, but I’m seriously starting to have doubts we get them. If young guys have to “think” about playing at the gold standard school and for the coach that fulfills more young kids dreams than anybody….there is something akin to self doubt in their game that we can’t know.

    • RealCatsFan
      11:27 am May 3, 2017 Permalink

I agree RG. It seems like the longer these kids string out their decisions, the more time for people who may not have the interests of the kid to get in their ear and sway their decision. The best kind of kids for UK are not the wishy washy type.

Johnson hasn’t been being recruited very long, he announced he was transferring but only started taking visits etc. recently. I don’t have a problem with kids at least taking to time to visit the schools you’re looking at. Now Knox and Bamba should freaking make a decision already.
