Kroger’s KSR Game of the Week: 3A Champ Belfry vs. 4A Champ Johnson Central

We are excited to have our friends at Kroger on board as we bring you high school football coverage this fall. Each week Kroger will present the KSR High School Game of the Week. We will travel to the featured game each week to bring you the best sights, sounds and incredible moments. Together we’re happy supporters of “KY Proud Products” and the “Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund.”

After our original choice for this week, Sayre vs. Pineville, was canceled due to COVID policies, KSR will travel to Johnson County for a battle of two elite teams from the mountains: Belfry and Johnson Central.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Last Year’s Game

Johnson Central ran all over Belfry in a 53-16 road victory.  The Golden Eagles rushed for 451 yards on 45 carries.  They threw only three passes.

Elite Coaching

Belfry’s Phillip Haywood has seven state championships.  He also wears a suit and jacket on the sideline during games.  Johnson Central’s Jim Matney has guided Johnson Central to five straight state finals, winning two.  These guys are good.

Both teams have already been featured in a KSR Game of the Week.  Belfry has been the only road team to lose the KSR Game of the Week, falling to rival Pikeville 20-14.  Johnson Central rolled to an easy road victory over Simon Kenton.

I played for Wayne county in 2013 when we lost to belfry 3-0 in the state championship my senior year. My brother last senior year they lost in the region championship to JC 51-0. So I hope both these teams lose. Lol.
