Woody Wommack of Rivals is reporting that Kobe Smith, a 3-star DT from Georgia has decommitted from the Cats. The 6’3″, 360 lb 2016 defensive tackle planned on enrolling early at UK and could have easily made an immediate impact on the defensive line.

On a positive note? Freddie Maggard says not all is lost:

Not shocking. Looking at how we played, don’t blame him. Question is how many more ?

UK can’t afford decommits when nothing else is in the pipe. Reading the tweets, looks like South Carolina might be getting him.

If Kobe Smith indeed decommitted, UK still with 2 DT’s that can play year one: Ja’Quize Cross and Kordell Looney. Cats could go JUCO rt also

6’3″ 360 pounds? Matt Elam weighs 360 but is four inches taller. Oh well, best of luck to him.

We’ve been searching for serviceable JUCO’s in December/January since Stoops arrived, to go along with our greatly improved recruiting.
    Still no depth.

Of course it does, UKBBU, but these loons around here just don’t understand football recruiting at all. As a matter of fact, they don’t understand much of anything. I’ll make a prediction….Alabama will lose recruits before NSD & then, those dominoes will start to fall, too.

Lol comparing Alabama losing a recruit to Kentucky losing a recruit is idiotic ….I’m sure Alabama has a credible replacement for their losses….We are not Alabama….

UK needs big time mobile D linemen. With spread offenses, and mobile QBs, we have no chance with large hole pluggers. In fact our defensive scheme needs revamping.
Something has to change, expecting our offense to put up 5 scores a game just to have a chance to be in a game, ain’t happening against next year’s schedule. 2016 will be a long season if the D isn’t shored up in a hurry.

Too bad. He is a badass and we could have used him on our less than impressive D line.

    Kid isn’t making a good move…
All he needs to do is get off on the snap quick and is a starter next year as a true freshman.
Doesn’t matter what type of offense a team runs if you own the line of scrimmage you will always be in the game.
South Carolina needs DT’s as bad if not worse than UK so no surprise if he goes there.
