KHSAA pushes back basketball practice, season expected to start on time

More from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s Wednesday board meeting, this time regarding high school basketball around the Bluegrass.

The KHSAA announced October 26 as the start date for basketball practice, 11 days after the usual October 15 start date of years past. The games will begin as planned on November 23, as decided by a unanimous vote in the meeting.

The board also voted to hold the Sweet 16 state tournament March 3-7 for the boys, March 10-14 for the girls. The postseason will begin February 15 with district tournaments.

In closing, KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett said, “This is not your everyday assignment. We’re trying to figure out a way to let sports be safe, and you know what, that means every once in a while mommy and daddy’s not going to be happy, that means Joe Fan’s not going to be happy because it’s not going to look like it did.

“It’s not over, folks. We just have a chance to let kids be a little more normal, so let’s try to really keep all of that in mind.”
