Kentucky’s 2020 Football Recruiting Class at a Glance

The Early Signing Period has been generous to the Kentucky Wildcats. Thursday afternoon cornerback Joel Williams became the fifth four-star prospect to commit to Kentucky in three days.

Of the 21 signees in Kentucky’s 2020 recruiting class (that’s including Joey Gatewood), 14 players are four-star recruits in at least one recruiting service. The Rivals average star-rating for each prospect is 3.52, the 13th-best in America. The recruiting website currently ranks the Cats’ class at No. 19 (that does not include Joey Gatewood).

Eleven states are represented in UK’s 2020 class. Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan are tied for the most with four apiece. North Carolina is the only state south of the Mason-Dixon Line and east of the Mississippi that is not sending a recruit to Kentucky.

The best news? There’s still room to grow. Stoops’ staff will be pursuing Bowling Green safety Vito Tisdale and Columbus, Oh. all-purpose back Michael Drennen II until they reach the finish line. While UK puts the finishing touches on the class, take a look at Kentucky’s 2020 recruiting class as of today.

I will preface this with, this is an incredible class. 247 composite is the best place to judge a class as they don’t cherry pick rankings. National ranking at 23rd, sec rank at 9th, average of .8846 which ranks 19th and is an average of a very high 3*, 5 – 4* recruits, 15 – 3* recruits. Drennan and Tisdale would move the class into the 18-19 range overall. What makes it tough in the SEC is 6 of the top 10 classes are from this conference, and 10 out of the top 25.

How can anyone just GLANCE at that recruiting class?! It’s SOOOOOO beautiful!

I don’t care much about the rankings. I care about the potentialof the class and what I KNOW this staff can do with that potential.

These guys are all ready to work and earn their playing time. Just hope injuries are avoided between now and February 2022

I have always used Rivals going back to the days when Cats Pause was on their platform. Not sure one is better than the other. I agree that I have always been more concerned about our SEC ranking than our National Ranking. But it’s hard to argue we’ve ever had a better 3 days in football recruiting than the past 3 days. I’m very excited for the future of Kentucky Football!

So star rating has us 13 but we are only 19? WHATEVER! Sounds like they just try and keep us Low as they can to affect Recruiting. That’s not going to work.

I’m very happy with this class, and i think it shows Stoops has the team on an upward trend; however, we will not seriously compete in the SEC East, much less SEC overall, until we get to the 5-6th ranked classes in the conference. Right now we’re still behind UT and South Carolina. We need to get over that hump first and start challenging Florida and Georgia. We’re not there yet, but hopefully we continue to claw our way into that territory.

      Absolute BULLSHT.

Wake up narcoleptic. They were 2nd in the East last year. Even without our QB, we were 6ft from 2 more wins in SEC competition…. 9 ft from 3 more wins.

That has ALL happened without sniffing the top 7 SEC recruiting classes EVER. Once the Cats turn in more 10 win seasons, the recruits they offer and that commit to them will receive HIGHER ratings instead of lower.

Ask the young men that are committing. They’ve seen what’s at other schools. They’ve chosen UK. It isn’t because they can’t compete.

You jest… If Smith(a backup) didn’t get his wrist hurt UF would be a 2 year streak, the way UT’s is so reliant on stopping the run there’s another win, don’t lose to UF and have a healthy qb the team actually has the fight in them to take it MissSt and S.Car. Add in a healthy Wilson and who knows how UGA turns out. That’s 11 wins with 1 possible extra.

Oh and don’t forget that this happened with far less stars then we just got. Stoops can see and develop 5 star potential in a 2-3 star what do you think he’s going to do with this much firepower. He has actually started playing games to the end instead of backing off half way through the 2nd quarter. This staff and team are starting to get built to play with anyone.

If you believe every team in the sec ranked above us, by whichever recruiting service you choose to trust, means we are still a mid to bottom dweller. You are forgetting where we have come from. Brooks, to Joker, to Stoops. You are failing to consider/remember the first half of football they played at Alabama. The thursday night game at home against Auburn. The wins over SC when spurrier was coaching, an old nemesis. The Florida game that seemed home cooked with the time clock. The win at Mizzu that Bowden and CJ told coaches to give me the ball for the win. Josh Allen was developed and coached up from a player no one else recruited to become the player he is becoming in the NFL. The rankings may be a parameter the talking heads may choose to go by, but as a program, the results and ascension have been upward like nothing I have witnessed in my fandom time, Lets just continue to set back and enjoy. Stoops walked in with no fear going after the players the big boys were going after. We lost out on them the first few years but the tide is changing. He is stacking the roster and developing players like we have not witnessed before. The SEC teams rated above us are living off of their past accomplishments. Kentucky football is building for the future and their immediate past is turning heads with recruits. Cant wait to see what the staff can make out of the high 3*, 4* and 5* recruits buying into our program now. Save your $, season ticket $ will be here before you know it. You, I want to be there. I know I may be blasted for this, but we still need a quarterback to take that next step.

I heard that we have the 2nd ranked class in regards to lineman. Thats OL and DL combined. Who’s ahead of us at #1? Clemson. This is unreal.

We have the best class because they are Wildcats! They want to be here and all that comes with it. They want to outwork everyone and outplay everyone, and prove the doubters everywhere that they are WRONG!

These are rare people. Courageous and motivated not just for themselves, but for the team! They’re not going to be a part of something already big. They’re builders and breakers, that are up for the challenges. Love this class and this team
