The Wildcats will play a 25-game schedule, nine of them non-conference games with the other 16 running through SEC league play. Of note, there are two open dates on Dec. 6 and Dec. 22 that have the opponents listed as “TBA”. In the non-conference portion of the schedule, Kentucky will take on Murray State to open the year on Nov. 25 at 1 p.m., followed by matchups against Belmont, Kansas State (away), Marshall, Samford, DePaul (away), and Wofford. The two open dates are expected to be fulfilled in order to meet the NCAA’s minimum requirement of 25 games played.
The road matchup against DePaul, a preseason top-20 team, will hope to replace the quality of the Louisville matchup UK had to forgo this season.
During SEC play, Kentucky will take on Arkansas at home to open things up, which will be followed by a tough stretch of games against Tennessee (away), Texas A&M (away), and South Carolina. All four of those teams figure to contend for the top spots in the conference. Arkansas is ranked as the preseason No. 14 team, Texas A&M is No. 13, South Carolina is No. 1, and Tennessee is receiving votes.
Kentucky’s SEC slate continues on against Auburn (away), Vanderbilt, Mississippi State (away), Alabama, Missouri, Ole Miss (away), Tennessee again, Florida (away), LSU, South Carolina again (away), Georgia (away), and then they finish up the regular season at home against Ole Miss for a second meeting.
The news of Matthew Mitchell’s retirement is still fresh, but the season is pushing forward regardless.
