All of the attention is on the Kentucky basketball and football teams right now, but the Volleyball Cats deserve some love.
In the first official AVCA Preseason Poll, Kentucky is ranked No. 5 in the nation.
After pulling off their best season in school history and making it to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament, it comes as no surprise the voters love the Cats. They managed a record-high 29 victories last year, including one during the regular season over top-ranked Florida. Kentucky finished No. 6 in the 2017-18 postseason polls, the highest mark in school history.
Three Wildcats are also represented on the preseason All-SEC team in Leah Edmond, Madison Lilley, and Avery Skinner. Edmond and Lilley were both All-Americans last season.
This offseason, coach Craig Skinner signed a contract extension to keep him at Kentucky through the 2022-23 season.
If you want to get your first look at the 2018-19 Volleyball Cats, you can head to Memorial Coliseum on Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. The team’s scrimmage will be open to the public free of charge.
