Kentucky Softball Falls to Utah 5-3

The Kentucky softball team fought back from the brink of elimination as if they really did possess nine livesthis weekend but in the end couldn’t find a way to get out of the Lexington regional. In Kentucky’s first two meetings with Utah offense came at a premium as both teams used a one inning breakthrough to win their games in the series. It looked to be that way for today’s game as both teams were scoreless heading into the fifth inning.

Utah opened the game up with a three run top of the fifth and UK immediately responded with a solo home run. But the game of catch-up never allowed Kentucky to get back into the game. Everytime the Cats would close the gap, the Utes found a way to score and keep their lead alive. The softball team showed a ton of grit and fight to force the game 3 playoff but I imagine this game will leave the team wondering what might have been if just a few plays had gone differently.

The softball team finishes with a record of 46-14 and the senior class does not advance to a super regional for the first time in their careers. That’s an impressive feat for a group that laid the foundation to build an SEC contender. Great job ladies.

The baseball and softball tournaments is the most stupid tournament format I have ever seen. I just don’t understand how Utah loses to UK, but then gets another shot to play UK and then beat UK and then progresses. It’s like, the previous losing team get rewarded in a 2 game series which baffles me.

That’s not how it works though. UK had already played Utah previously before today in the tourney, and lost. Therefore they had to beat them two times today to advance, which they couldn’t.

Obviously you have not seen many of them. Actually by winning it gave us another shot at Utah, not the other way around. Before complaining about the format, look it up and understand how it works. These are double elimination tourneys so a team has to lose twice. Utah had 0 losses entering today and we had 1, ours was to Utah but would not have mattered who it was to. So to get knocked out of double elimination you need 2 losses, we gave them one setting up the winner take all game. Get a clue before posting.

@ WearewBBN, you can screw off

@TDog, I only saw two games, but if there was another then that seems fair. which is why there was the confusion.
