Kentucky is going after former Louisville basketball commit Bryce Hopkins.

After KSR’s own Matt Jones was the first to report that UK would have interest in the 2021 four-star forward on Sunday evening, Travis Graf of Cats Illustrated and the Sources Say Podcast broke the news that contact has been made between both parties.

“Spoke with a source who tells me that Kentucky has reached out to 2021 forward Bryce Hopkins,” Graf reported. “The four-star forward decommitted from Louisville yesterday.”

Graf tells KSR that Kenny Payne was the Kentucky coach to reach out to the 6-foot-7 forward, an interesting note considering the valued UK assistant is currently mulling an offer from the New York Knicks to join Tom Thibodeau’s coaching staff.

Hopkins is considered the No. 33 prospect overall and No. 8 power forward in the 2021 247Sports Composite Rankings.

In an interview with 247Sports, the Oak Park, IL native said he decided to decommit from Louisville due to the program’s numerous recruiting violations and potential sanctions coming from the NCAA.

“I opened up my recruitment because there were a lot of uncertainties on what is going on with the sanctions,”Hopkins told 247Sports. “They also keep appealing (the sanctions) which is only making it harder on me.”

Before committing to Louisville back in November, Hopkins had scholarship offers from schools such as Illinois, Indiana, Xavier, Wisconsin, Iowa and others.

Illinois picked up some of the early buzz immediately following his decommitment, but some of the latest rumblings indicate the four-star prospect is hoping to take his talents to a blue blood program.

Could Kentucky rub salt in the wound of Louisville fans and sign the former Cardinal commit?

While we wait to see how serious the Kentucky coaching staff is, check out some of Hopkins’ highlights below:

Kid throws some nice passes but doesn’t look athletic enough to make up for his lack of size. In other words, he doesn’t look like a Calipari recruit.

Jack, ask Travis to put a “Hopkins Tracker” on HOB because it sounds like a done deal much like Cunningham to Ky and Kunkel to Ky…
