Kentucky pass-rusher JJ Weaver’s mother dismisses transfer rumors

2019 four-star defensive end signee and current Kentucky freshman pass-rusher JJ Weaver isn’t going anywhere… If you ask his mother, at least.

Over the last several days, rumors have circulated that the Louisville, KY (Moore Traditional) product was second-guessing his decision to sign with Kentucky and was contemplating a transfer to the University of Louisville.

And then over at Cardinal Authority – Louisville’s 247Sports affiliate – UofL insider Jody Demling reportedly said there is “smoke” to these rumors, adding that it’s “not a flimsy rumor” that the prized Kentucky signee was thinking about heading home to play for the Cardinals.

This afternoon, however, the former four-star prospect’s mother, Stacey Sherrell, announced on Twitter that her son “AIN’T GOING NO DAMM WHERE” and respectfully asked fans to “KILL THAT NOISE!!”

Weaver was listed as the No. 213 prospect in the class of 2019, the 14th-best player in the class at his position, and the fourth-best prospect in the state of Kentucky on As a senior, the Moore Traditional product recorded 70 tackles, 10 sacks, three interceptions and a fumble recovery, helping lead Moore to 11 wins and a spot in the quarterfinals of the state championships.

Weaver chose Kentucky over Louisville, Miami, Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Purdue, among others, out of high school.

Through six games, the 6-foot-5, 237-pound outside linebacker has not played and is currently on pace to redshirt this season.

He really really needs to stick around: he can be a star in a couple years. Has a lot of skills and talent.

Notfromhere, man I’m with you! I can envision this young man becoming an All SEC player before he moves on. He’s going to be a big part of the future of this program and I hope he knows that every Kentucky fan is extremely excited to see him play. As for the Louisville talk, I like their coach and think he’s done a great job so far with what he’s had to work with, as long as he’s not got some of these kids trying to talk to our players about transferring or anything he’s ok with me. Now if he or anyone on the staff would do that, it would be another story.

Saying all that, I definitely want players that want to be at Kentucky, I also want the great players that just want to play Football and don’t care where they play. Lol. I hope Weaver is one that has started to love UK and wants to be here. He’s got a lot of potential.

They are planning to redshirt the entire class, so 4 games max, but he has talent in front of him. He’s not played because he hasn’t earned the snaps yet.

Because they plan on doing a red shirt year. Nothing new, is what top programs have done for years but something we have not had the luxury of. You get great FR and hold them a year and that is how you build depth. Stoops could not do that too much early on as we needed our FR to play since he was left with nothing. This is how you build depth, and DL and LB positions are not a great need this year, especially after a 3-3 start.

Supposedly, Vince Marrow’s recruiting pitch was that he would play as a true freshman. And when he was going to take a visit to Louisville right before signing day, Marrow put the pressure on him not to take that visit and reiterated that he will see playing time. Now, I don’t think he will transfer. But this is basically why he isn’t happy. My nephew was his HS teammate and this is what he told me.

It makes sense that they get him in those four games down the stretch to preserve his redshirt. Nothing to see here.

He gets four games. Play him. Several others should see action as well. Nothing like competition to keep the first stringers focused and productive.
You help a young secondary by pressuring the QB.
