Kentucky Olympic Medalists Returning Home This Week

Three inspiring ladies will be making their returns to the Bluegrass this week, including one double leg amputee carrying two gold medals.

The Courier Journal profiled Oksana Masters, a Paralympian out of Louisville who lost her legs due to… wait, what?

Oksana Masters is a double amputee, the result of birth defects likely caused by the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster. The Olympian was raised in Louisville from the age of 13 after being adopted from a Ukrainian orphanage by Dr. Gay Masters, a University of Louisville speech pathologist.

That’s legitimately insane and incredible. Up to today, Oksana has competed in four different sports, netting herself five medals, including two golds. She will speak to employees at the Georgetown Toyota plant this Thursday, and if they aren’t motivated by her story, they don’t have hearts.

Also making their way back to Kentucky this week are Mary T. Meagher and Kelsi Worrell Dahlia, two gold medal winning Olympic swimmers who will be attending an event in Louisville on Tuesday.

Have some GD respect for this young lady, edit out the “wait, what?” and the “insane” from the copy.
