Ashton Hagans has his scholarship offer from Kentucky.
The five-star prospect, ranked as the No. 1 point guard in the Class of 2019, has been open about wanting an offer from Kentucky over the past few weeks. On Thursday, Hagans got his wish as John Calipari extended the offer, per multiple reports.
So what now?
Maybe, just maybe, Hagans will reclassify and join Kentucky’s guard-heavy 2018 class. Hagans has been considering a reclassification that would land him in college basketball next season, but he has not yet made that official. It’s unclear if Calipari gave the offer with intentions of adding him next year or immediately, but the reclassification is in play, as are several other schools that want him right away.
Louisville extended an offer yesterday, and he’s also hearing from new Georgia head coach Tom Crean, who hopes to get Hagans back on the Georgia train. Hagans committed to Georgia back in December, but quickly reopened his recruitment two months later.
For Kentucky, if Hagans were to accept and reclassify, it would make for a very crowded backcourt next season. But if the No. 1 point guard wants to join your program, you have to take him. Immanuel Quickley and Quade Green will just have to fight a little harder for PG minutes next season.
It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out. All we know for now is that UK is major contender for Hagans, whenever he decides to go to college.
