Kentucky Hosts 2021 Center Bretner Mutombo

While the Big Blue Nation patiently awaits for Kerry Blackshear Jr.’s arrival, another talented frontcourt player toured Kentucky’s campus.

6’10” rising junior Bretner Mutombo was in Lexington today for an unofficial visit, according to Jake Weingarten. The visit comes on the heels of trips to Michigan, Xavier and Dayton.

A four-star prospect, 247 Sports ranks Mutombo as the ninth-best center and No. 60 player overall in the 2021 class. So far Mutombo has offers from Auburn, Georgia, Miss. State, Florida, Georgia Tech and Xavier.

Originally from the Congo, Mutombo is a raw prospect. If he puts on some weight and continues to improve, he could be a late bloomer that is turning heads on the recruiting trail this time next year.

Instead of seeing a typical highlight mixtape, enjoy footage of a Mutombo workout from the fall of 2016. The setting is slightly different than the Craft Center.

I hope so. Also, I couldn’t stop skimming ahead to see if he is Dikembe’s son.

You’d think they would mention it either way

I wondered the same and did some research. Bretner is not Dikembe’s son. However, he does have a son named Ryan who is 6’9 and unranked in the class of 2021. Mutumbo seems to be a relatively common name in the Congo.

Needs work on the hands and touch around the rim. Maybe it was a workout to get him more in shape but I’d love to see him practicing to finish with the left or right on layups around the rim. Dunks aren’t going to happen every time if he was playing US circuit and he’s not really a high riser. Lots of potential though. This seemed like more of a conditioning workout though.
