Kentucky has Reached Out to Nico Mannion

John Calipari has eyed a new point guard target in the 2019 recruiting class.

Last week, Nico Mannion officially reclassified from the 2020 to the 2019 class.  Not long after he made the move, Mannion told reporters in Las Vegas that Kentucky and North Carolina “got into the mix” in his recruitment.  He’s talked to Calipari, but has not yet received a scholarship offer.

Already considered the No. 1 point guard in the 2019 class by 247 Sports, the 6’3″ Pinnacle, Arizona native was expected to release a top five this week, but the emergence of Kentucky and North Carolina delayed that decision.  The other frontrunners in his recruitment are Duke, Villanova and Arizona.  If the home-state school can’t keep Mannion, the Wildcat fans are not going to be happy.

Kentucky already has one committed combo guard in the 2019 class, Tyrese Maxey, but after watching Mannion’s highlights, you’ll understand why he’s piqued Coach Cal’s interest.

This kid can flat out play. He would be an awesome point guard for us to have. I hope this can work for the BBN.

I love the kids pull up game. You wouldn’t think he’d be athletic by looking at him but kid has some serious hops.

I wonder if duke gets this kid if it helps our chances with Cole Anthony because if that’s the case then let duke have this kid.

This Nico kids looks nice but honestly if you didnt tell me what he was ranked, I would think he was at most a 4-star and not within the Top 100. Also…. Josiah James is considered #1 PG by 247Sports in 2019.

“He’s a high-motor guy, long, athletic, with a big wing span, good hand size, good shooter, not a great shooter but a good shooter, more of a high volume scorer, will have to get better defensively at the next level but has the physical tools to do so.” Insert player name per Jay Bilas breakdown.

Being that he reclassfied and is killing kids older and much more developed then he is should count for something, most kids reclassify their jr-sr year him doing so from soph-jr year is kinda strange, or I don’t know maybe it happens more and this is the first time I’ve noticed. With that said his long ball seems solid, hands and passing seem good, but how’s his D? With his age and potential I can see why they put him over Anthony

He’s not over Anthony. Anthony is a combo guard. This kid is like 19 overall in 2019
