Kentucky Football Coaches Set to Visit Two Four-Star Recruits

Less than a week away from National Signing Day, Kentucky football coaches are hitting the road to see a pair of four-star recruits in the 2019 class.

KSR has learned that UK coaches will have in-home visits Thursday with wide receiver Devonta Lee and cornerback Jay Ward.

The trip to Louisiana is just a few days after Lee opted to remain home last weekend, instead of making the drive to Lexington for an unofficial visit.  The Cats had plenty of momentum in his recruitment following an official visit in December.  Tomorrow is UK’s last chance to captivate the Top 200 athlete before he officially visits LSU this weekend.

Kentucky coaches will be in Moultrie, Georgia to visit Jay Ward for the second time in ten days.  In-between in-home visits, Ward canceled a trip to Florida State to officially visit Kentucky over the weekend.

LSU is considered Kentucky’s top competition for each recruit.  Lee has received the pitch to be a “home state hero,” while Ward’s Death Valley experience led him to de-commit from UK in November.  Kentucky is close to securing another commitment from Ward, but they’ll have to bring their A-game to convince Lee to leave his home state.

2 four stars is definitely better than 4 two stars

Tell Josh Allen that. I will take 1 of him {2 star} over 20 Fatt Elams {4 or 5 star}. Sometimes players just get overlooked {Allen} and sometimes players get over hyped {Elam}. Sometimes it alsomatters how hard the player {regardless of ranking} wants to be better.

Mashburnfan is right. Matt Elam, Micah Jones, and others ranked in the 4s didn’t practice/play to their potential. You want to get the best available that want it and want to be here to do it. Josh Allen and Randall Cobb all day over even a Denzil Ware and a Matt Elam. End of the day, I appreciate all of the kids that play through their college career for the Cats

One 2-star prospect turns out like Josh Allen out of what? 10,000 of them? All of a sudden everyone says stars mean nothing. Do the research and all the studies will show you about 25% of 5-star recruits will be drafted in the first 2 rounds of the NFL draft. Stars do mean something.

247 Sports has a great article. Over the past few drafts, only 1% of all 2-star recruits were drafted at all. 5% of all 3-star recruits were drafted. 61% of all 5-star recruits were drafted by the NFL.

It’s silly to compare overachieving 2 stars to a couple of 4 star busts and jump to the conclusion that stars don’t matter. A roster full of 2 stars will get you Joker or Bill Curry results, at best.

And damn you people for putting me in a position where I have to agree with My Dixie Wrecked on something. Ha!

Big moment for Kentucky!!!! If we can pull both that will change things on defense and offense of side for who will start in 2019. Because both would start immediately. However if we can at least pull one that would be more likely Ward, which we need.

If we’re just naming 2020 RB’s that don’t have offers from UK, my vote is for Chris Tyree. Runs a 4.23 forty according to ESPN

Have a hard time believing ward starting immediately is a definite thing. Cant underestimate our depth simply because hes a 4 star and current roster wasnt. Agree about lee if he is as advertised.

Bring these 2 back to Kentucky. We need both but one will do. There’s nothing wrong with those 2 * players they turn into top 5 NFL draft picks, sometimes.

I’ll take my chances with 4 star players all day, every day instead of a 1 out of 500 2 star that beats the odds

They can lose to ala in the west or beat ala in the SEC championship.
