Kentucky Basketball coaches already on the road again

Coach Calipari, Orlando Antiqua and Kenny Payne never seem to get a break. A mere few hours after the Tennessee victory and the coaches are in Dayton to watch Tyler Ulis and 2015 recruit Luke Kennard tonight.

Luke Kennard is a 6-5 and 182 pounds Junior out of Franklin, OH.  The five-star recruit is high on UK’s radar and Cal wants him bad. Other schools in the early running for Kennard are Duke, Louisville, Michigan and Ohio State, although Kentucky looks to be his favorite.

Cal has made the Flyin’ to the Hoop event here in Dayton a regular stop over the past few years. Andrew Wiggins played here last year. It’s a really cool event with like 25 games over the four days. The kid (Luke Kennard) he’s watching is really a nice player but looks to be leaning Ohio State according to the locals here. He sat behind the bench at the Wisconsin @ Ohio State game last week.

So he lives close. He has also been to many UK games this season.

247 Crystal Ball has him at 79% UK, 12% Duke, 6% OhioSt, 3% Mich. That is probably wishful thinking on Dayton’s part.

LOVE our coaching staff and their RECRUITING EFFORTS…

Reminds me of the S.I. article done on Rick Pitino when he first took over the Cats…

Apparently, one of his Assistant Coaches was getting off a plane trip from recruiting when Coach Pitino told him to “catch a flight out immediately and go recruit this player.”

The Assistant Coach, who was exhausted replied “Rick…I have not been home in 5-nights, and have not seen my wife all week”…

Rick Pitino insisted he get on the flight and go recruit this kid… and the Assistant Coach DID.

S.I. used this example of Rick Pitino’s non-stop effort, determination, and obsession, to bring UK back to the top.

The Assistant Coach? Orlando Tubby Smith!

Funny how years later, after Rick Pitino moved on to Boston and then Back to Louisville, the UK program slowly slipped off the radar of top recruits, and did not return to until Coach Calipari was hired.

    SO glad…

    – those Tubby and Billy years are gone…
    – we have Coach Calipari…
    – #8
    – pursuing #9

    On…On…U OF K…

These guys are like the mail carriers, neither rain, sleet or snow stops them from recruiting.

This kid reminds me of Rex Chapman… and sexy Rex just happens to be my favorite UK player of all time. It would be nice to see him in blue. Of course… I doubt he can jump like Rex.
