Kentucky a finalist to host NCAA Softball Tournament Regional

Due to the pandemic, the NCAA is predetermining the host sites for the 2021 Softball Tournament; this afternoon, the selection committee announced the University of Kentucky (John Cropp Stadium) is one of 20 schools in the running for 16 spots. The final 16 will be revealed on Selection Sunday, May 16 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Here are the 20 finalists:

Alabama – Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Arizona – Tuscon, Ariz.
Arizona State – Tempe, Ariz.
Arkansas – Fayetteville, Ark.
Clemson – Greenville, S.C.
Florida – Gainesville, Fla.
Florida State – Tallahassee, Fla.
Georgia – Athens, Ga.
Kentucky – Lexington, Ky.
LSU – Baton Rouge, La.
Michigan – Ann Arbor, Mich.
Missouri – Columbia, Mo.
Oklahoma – Norman, Okla.
Oklahoma State – Stillwater, Okla.
Oregon – Eugene, Ore.
Tennessee – Knoxville, Tenn.
Texas – Austin, Texas
UCLA – Los Angeles, Calif.
Virginia Tech – Blacksburg, Va.
Washington – Seattle, Wash.

The NCAA Softball Tournament regionals take place May 21-23, followed by the super regionals May 27-30. The 2021 championship will culminate with the Women’s College World Series at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, from June 3-9. All games will be broadcast on ESPN’s family of networks.

Based on recent guidance from its COVID-19 Medical Advisory Group, the NCAA will allow up to 50% capacity at the predetermined sites, with the exact percentages varying by site depending on state and local health mandates. The championship field will consist of 31 conference automatic qualifiers and 33 at-large qualifiers. Kentucky is currently ranked No. 17 in the country and plays Texas A&M in College Station this weekend.
