KenPom Predicts the OSU Game, Other Stats

Deep down inside we’re all basketball nerds. I am one who doesn’t hide that at all. I love advanced stats, predictions, etc. There’s no better site/guy for all those than KenPom, which predicted the final score for the game on Saturday.

KenPom has Kentucky winning 74-64 as an exact score and gave the Cats an 82 percent chance to win. Hey, I’ll take it. The site (which you need a subscription for to look at this) has the game as the 15th best game on Saturday and Kentucky ranked as No.8 vs Ohio State’s No. 74.

Some other advanced stats from KenPom

  • Kentucky ranks 93rd in effective field goal offense and 26th defensively
  • Kentucky is 6th in the country in offensive rebounding percentage (thank you Marcus Lee)
  • Kentucky is favored to win every game besides at Kansas in which the Cats have a 33% chance and at Vanderbilt with a 47%.
  • The only negative stats for Kentucky is 3pt percentage (shocking) and defensive FT percentage.

So, there are your nerd notes for the day.

I won’t pretend to know how KENPOM comes up with it’s predictions, but 10 points is waaay too close! I think the CATS will beat the crap out of OSU! I’m saying 22, and it won’t be THAT close of a game There’s only 1 player on that roster that would get some run on our team, and NONE would ever start! Besides, I think Skal with the extra attention this week, will finally get things turned around!

I was looking forward to watching it. But if it’s math, I see no reason to play the game. Mr. Pomeroy has spoiled it for us!
