Kenny Payne says no to DePaul to remain with the New York Knicks

There will not be a Big Blue reunion in Chicago.

Reports surfaced this morning that DePaul’s brass, including athletic director DeWayne Peevy, met with Kenny Payne in Milwaukee to work out a deal to make the former UK associate head coach the new leader of the Blue Demons’ program. Many believed that was the final remaining step to make Payne DePaul’s next head coach. The tension only lasted more than a few hours.

Kentucky fans who love to connect dots could already foresee the future. Peevy would hire Payne, the two would rock it at DePaul for a couple years and win a Big East title or two. Once Cal and Mitch were ready to step down, they would happily hand the keys to Peevy and Payne. It was a fun hypothetical, but it will not be happening anytime soon.

I guess kenny doesn’t want to be a head coach. That would have been a good job for him. But Knicks assistant isn’t bad either

Or maybe he is waiting for Cal.

$$$talk$$$ The Knicks weren’t going to let him go without a fight. The team chemistry is notably different and I think we all know who is to thank for that. KP is a good coach, but he’s an even better mentor and helps drive the bus.

In the carousel of coaches that is the NBA, it is just a matter of time…maybe next year…before KP gets a head coaching gig in the pros. They are always searching for that up-and-coming assistant coach…especially one with his demeanor. Then if it doesn’t work out in 4-5 years he will be ready to take a high-major college job.

Cal and Pitino are obnoxious and pompous. I don’t think that Hall, Sutton or Smith were. So just what is wrong with KP’s personality?

And both Cal and Pitino have winning histories. If KP is smart he will run as fast as he can if he is offered the UK job just based on all the hatred among our fanbase.

$1.5M/year in his pocket made this an easy no brainer. KP will have more influence in NYC than Chitown. Plus it keeps the KY Knicks together

I would be all for Kenny Payne being Cals successor. However if you guys don’t want Payne then name a better choice for the UK Job,other than Chris Beard. You also have to realize that Cal is going to have a major voice in who UK Hires to succeed him. How do we know that Cal hasn’t already deemed Kenny Payne his heir, and KP left to improve his resume so the UK alumni and UK boosters and board can be on board with his hire? The truth is KP is a better on ball coach than Calipari, and is a superb recruiter, and a father like figure that past UK players coveted and was a driving force as too why they choose UK in the first place. Trust me Cal doest get a lot of the players he has the past 5-6 years without KP. I think he can also help to gradually change the culture within the UK fanbase which is desperately needed.

Best replacement right now is South Car women’s coach. Thinking next one comes from the women’s side if not her.

Maybe it’s time we busted the Hype Ballon associated with the program that values Personality over Results and Competence and put a little more focus on the quality and Results of our teams. Justba thought.

And for you idiots that continue to Bash the fan base which consists of a few Million based on opinions of a half dozen unhappy campers on a anonymous message board? Like those opinions represent the BBN as a whole nor have a spec of bearing on anything…You’re too Stupid to know you’re stupid.

Why do people keep showing interest in former assistants to coach 9-16? Which one has been successful in the past?

John Wooden, Coach K, Roy Williams, Billy Donavon, Jim Calhoun, the list could go on and none of these coaches are known for their personalities. What is a fact, they all have more National Titles than Calipari….. Maybe Calipari is one and done! I hope not, but right now , hope is all any cat fan can say they have after 9-16
