Keeneland’s Summer Meet is happening

Horses will run at Keeneland this summer.

This morning, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission approved the track’s request for a spectator-free meet from July 8-12. The meet will include several races that were set to take place during the Spring Meet, including the $600,000 Grade 2 Blue Grass Stakes and the $400,000 Grade 1 Ashland Stakes, which will both be held on Saturday, July 11, and continue to serve as prep races for the Kentucky Derby and Oaks, which will take place September 5 and 4, respectively at Churchill Downs. Also on the card on July 11: the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley and Madison Stakes and Grade 2 Shakertown and Appalachian Stakes.

Keeneland expects to hold nine to ten races per day. Again, no spectators will be allowed, but the races will likely be broadcast on TV or online so you can hold your own Keeneland day at home.
