Things are swell in Lawrence, Kansas right about now.
First, star big man Udoka Azubuike had season-ending surgery on his right hand back in January. Then, forward Silvio De Sousa was declared ineligible for two seasons by the NCAA this past weekend.
Tonight, Kansas announced star shooting guard Lagerald Vick would take a leave of absence from the team immediately for “personal matters” with no timetable set for a return.

Sitting at 17-6 on the year, the Jayhawks have lost four of their last six games and are dropping in the rankings at a rapid pace. After climbing to the No. 1 spot in week seven, they dropped to No. 13 in the most recent AP Poll and No. 14 in the Coaches Poll, and that drop is going to continue following the team’s 67-74 loss at Kansas State on Tuesday night.
With four road games remaining out of just eight total matchups left on the schedule, things aren’t looking too good for a Jayhawk team currently clinging to 14 consecutive Big 12 championship titles.
