Kahlil Whitney jumps into Top 10 of ESPN’s 2019 rankings

ESPN just released its new rankings for the 2019 class, and, not surprisingly, Kentucky commit Kahlil Whitney made a big jump. Whitney rose five spots to No. 9, two spots below fellow future Cat Tyrese Maxey, who stayed put at No. 7. The third member of Kentucky’s 2019 class, Dontaie Allen, came in at No. 91.

James Wiseman remained at No. 1, while Vernon Carey Jr. dropped from No. 2 to No. 3. Oscar Tshiebwe, who included Kentucky in his final four yesterday, is 32nd. Here’s where the rest of Kentucky’s notable targets landed:

Kentucky Commits

7. Tyrese Maxey, G
9. Kahlil Whitney, SF
91. Dontaie Allen, SF

Notable Targets

1. James Wiseman, C
3. Vernon Carey Jr., C

Last week, Whitney jumped from No. 14 to No. 6 in 247 Sports’ rankings, further validation of an impressive summer. Let’s enjoy his highlights, shall we?

Young Mr. Nico Mannion just cut Kentucky recently. Which is unfortunate, really love his game.

Yes, Nico cut us, very unfortunately.

Did Cole Anthony cut us also, or is your list just inaccurate?

Cole is a target without a scholarship offer, the target list is semi incomplete as Bryan Antoine is missing from the list

Nico said he wanted to go to a school and be the guy like Trae Young so he can impress NBA scouts. So somewhere like USC or maybe Arizona. Hasn’t been well documented that Antoine is a strong Duke lean? And no one on earth knows what Anthony is going to do. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him go oversees for a year or go somewhere super random… like UNLV like his dad. I think we get 1 of the 4 bigs we are recruiting and another big from the next class to reclassify. Maybe we get one more wing, Scottie Lewis or another kid reclassified. Should be fun either way!

Articles like this is when I start to judge KSR from both a journalism and basketball knowledge standpoint. How else do you forget about Cole Anthony, Jaden McDaniels, Bryan Antoine, Keion Brooks, and Kofi Cockburn? They’ve been considered targets for the longest time and now no mention of them? If something happened and they’re no longer targets then it would make sense to include it so there’s no speculation – and to ensure the information KSR is providing is close-looped. Just saying…

Amen. And Nico isn’t a target at all. TJ is the only one who knows his stuff when it comes to basketball recruiting
