JUCO Cornerback Brandin Echols Commits to Kentucky

The weekend keeps getting better and better for the Kentucky football program.

Brandin Echols, the 44th-rated JUCO prospect in the country, just announced on his Twitter page that he has committed to Kentucky.

He decided to join Kentucky’s 2019 recruiting class following an official visit to Lexington this weekend.

This is Kentucky’s second commitment since their huge victory over Mississippi State last night, with three-star quarterback Amani Gilmore choosing the Cats almost immediately after the game went final.

Echols has a chance to make an immediate impact in 2019 as Derrick Baity, Chris Westry, and Lonnie Johnson are all seniors.

Watch him work below:

Welcome home!

We will need some more JUCOs for the secondary. Our Oline and Dline will be good for years to come! We got great depth now and awesome redshirts coming next year.

We have some really good young corners on the roster already. Freshman and Red Shirt Freshman. This JUCO commit helps but we don’t need more JUCO DBs. We have some really talented young guys who are tall and long.

You mean like the 5 stars that couldn’t block the 2 star, 2 scholarship offer line backer we like to call Josh Allen last night??
Those stars beside a name mean nothing if you don’t play with heart!! If you do, Josh Allen is a perfect example of doing just that. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and plays with heart and quite possibly one the the best defensive players to come through Lexington in quite some time!

Football recruiting is much different then basketball. The rankings aren’t as accurate due to less individual exposure. In football you don’t have the Nike EYBL AAU circuit or the Adidas Gauntlet. We have to trust in the talent evaluations of our coaches. Would we love to have 5 star recruits? Of course! But as the other commenter pointed out the stars aren’t the end all be all.

5 star talent is typically safe to evaluate bc the few that are, are always seen and evaluated. The 3 and 4 stars are where hidden gems are and in some cases 2 stars and not ranked.

You do realize that the Alabama’s and Georgia’s average 4-5 five star players per recruiting class. The rest are three and four stars. Stop thinking they roll out five stars in every position. It’s not true.

Ok. You all let me know how that’s been working out for Alabama and Georgia and Ohio State…etc. I like all these “armchair coaches & recruiters” act like “nah, we don’t need ANY 4 or 5 Stars” we need 1,2,3 Stars!!!! Wake up and stop speaking beyond your intelligence. Seems like EVERY YEAR Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma, OHio State make it to the Playoffs…Must be because of all those 1,2, 3 Star player!!! It’s not even mathematically correct to mention this on a blog. That’s the same as saying well, we’re gonna enter in the Daytona 500 with this new 4 cylinder engine against all the V8’s…you get it now!!! Not gonna WIN. Like UK hasn’t in the past. We need the ELITE Players at UK PERIOD

I trust this staff to know what we need. It’s interesting Rivals credits Schlarman as the recruiter.
