First and foremost, Josh Allen is a family man. That much was made clear during his time at Kentucky, but his priorities are even more on display after his selection as the No. 7 pick in this year’s NFL Draft.
He spent the evening with his wife, Kaitlyn, and their child, Wesley. Today, the whole family is in Jacksonville, and Allen gave his first press conference as a Jaguar. Along with plenty of football-talk, Allen also gave reporters some insight into his sweet family.
Allen began the press conference by thanking the organization for giving him a chance, then he reminisced on how he spent the night before the Draft. The couple was fortunate to have Wesley sleep through the night, so they were able to stay up and prepare for the massive day ahead.
“We just talked about how we’re going to achieve greatness and success in this next part of our life,” Allen said of their conversation.
It looks like Wesley is already finding his way around Jacksonville, based on some sweet videos posted on Instagram by his mom.
Allen also weighed in on the decision to tie the knot last week, which was obviously a very busy time in their lives. He knows his life will revolve around football now more than ever, and he wanted to give Kaitlyn a week that was all about her and all about them as a couple – no football involved. Allen also revealed the couple got married at the Kentucky Castle in Versailles – “we know people who know people.”
“I decided to marry her because I want spend the rest of my life with her and I wanted to be committed to something more than football,” Allen said. “She knows what I’m trying to do with my life, and I wouldn’t want to be with anyone else.”
The couple met during Allen’s first year in Lexington, so he gives her a lot of credit for making him the man he is today.
“I met her my freshman year when I was still trying to figure out who I was as a person, so I really wasn’t the person who I am today,” Allen said. “She helped me find my way, and she’s been at my hip ever since.”
Someone else who deserves some credit for Allen’s success? Their son, Wesley DeVon Allen.
“Ever since he was born, he’s forced me to be a better person. And I believe that’s forced me to be a better football player. He’s the reason why I play so hard and he’s the reason I go to work every day.”
Baby Wesley was as cute as ever during the press conference – he definitely stole the show.
Being a top-10 pick in the Draft does come with some perks – cars, for example. Allen surprised his (at the time) fiancee with a brand new car, thanks to a deal with Hyundai. Check out the sweet video.
A good football player, but an even better person.
