Johnny Juzang’s announcing something big tomorrow

On Friday, John Calipari and Joel Justus visited 2020 five-star wing Johnny Juzang in California and offered him a scholarship. Minutes ago, Juzang tweeted that he’s got a “big announcement” coming tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. ET:

There have been rumors Juzang might reclassify to 2019; if so, that’s a pretty big announcement, and the timing certainly favors the Cats. Juzang is considered the No. 19 player in the 2020 class by ESPN and averaged 23.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists last season. In addition to Kentucky, he’s already been offered by Kansas, Virginia, UCLA, USC, and others.

After Cal and Justus met with Juzang on Friday, 247 Sports’ Jerry Meyer logged a Crystal Ball pick in Kentucky’s favor. He also told Ben Roberts that he’s heard talk of reclassification and that Juzang has coveted a UK offer for a while.

Jack will have more on Juzang in tonight’s Insider Notes, but for now, enjoy his latest highlights.

…and an interview with Juzang’s AAU coach Darin Graham that Aaron Torres posted yesterday:

Well, he’s also getting recruited by UVA, and Kyle Guy just announced he’s staying in the draft so

Random question for people on here. Would you rather get a freshman with more talent who could potentially start along side Maxey or would you want someone to just fill the role Baker left to give us depth because hagans and quickley have been here and earned it?

Me personally I want the talented freshman. But I feel like a lot of people on here are so upperclassman anal that they want hagans or quickley starting no matter what over a freshman. I think this kid or Hampton would start over the ones we have coming back. It’s a shame but make them compete best player starts.

Not to diminish “starting” but to have a solid rotation where players get minutes negates foul problems and off night issues. I think this answers your question from my perspective in that a little depth matters more than who starts. We are always reminded that some 5stars don’t always work out as advertised as well for various reasons. With depth, you have higher percentage that some will. So let the practice and experience of playing games sort out who starts and how a rotation goes. My 2 pennies..

Want the best players possible. Most but not all the time the best players win.

UVA is the only threat really but on that same note Guy wins and loses with Vets. He doesn’t have a good reputation with Freshman. He rather see a seasoned good player get more than a star noob.

I don’t think most talented teams win as much as lost experience with talent

I want the best player regardless of what grade there in and that would be Ashton Hagans period.

I remember the last guy to come out to Kentucky from around Compton…tall and lanky, good shooter. The Prince.

Like the looks of his game. Good rebounder for a shooter. We’re loading up on wings when what it looks like we need is a big or two. Interesting twist if he’s a reclass and commit…

Maybe Cal is really going to try and change to small Ball with some shooters. He has hinted at a return to dribble drive and small ball after the success by Villanova and the Warriors.
