We’re a close-knit family here at KSR, and tonight, one of our favorites got a primetime shoutout on a very difficult day.
John Short, who has been a regular caller on practically every UK radio show going back to Cawood Ledford’s days, lost his mother Betty today after she suffered a fall on Thursday and was moved to hospice. The dedicated fan that he is, Short still called in to today’s pregame show to wish the Cats well, predicting a 25-biggin’ win and putting a lump in all our throats. In his best KSR reference yet, SEC Network announcer Tom Hart delivered a message to Short after Kentucky’s first touchdown.
“Kentucky’s got a super fan by the name of John Short. He expects Kentucky to win every game by about a billion. Well, John, hopefully this brings you a smile. His mom passed away today, so our condolences to the Short family.”

There is no doubt that brought a smile to John’s face, just as there is no doubt this video will bring a tear to your eye.
I’ll never forget going to the beach for the first time and calling momma. She was so excited for me. I’m going to miss talking to momma. I love you momma. pic.twitter.com/WEb6Yztbry
