John Petty Picks ALABAMA

As expected, John Petty will stay close to home to play for the Avery Johnson’s Alabama Crimson Tide. ┬áRanked as the No. 5 shooting guard in the 2017 class, John Calipari once led for the Huntsville native, but the persistent Avery Johnson could not let Petty leave the state.

Moving forward, Kentucky should land their first 2017 backcourt player when Shai Alexander announces on Monday. ┬áThe Cats are also in good shape with shooting guard Lonnie Walker, who visited campus last weekend, and Hamidou Diallo, the class’ No. 1 shooting guard who will decide in the spring.

I just don’t see why these kids and their families want to gamble with their future. I respect and like Avery Johnson, but he doesn’t have any experience in getting freshman to play at a high level. It isn’t as easy as it looks. Just ask Ben Howland and Malik Newman how that worked out. I’m hoping we can get Walker, as Diallo seems to be leaning NBA or UConn.

I know Cal really wanted this kid in the beginning, but I really felt Cal backed off a little when Lonnie Walker came into the picture. I really thought Washington and Petty wanted to play together and I can’t blame the kid for staying at home, but still not the best choice. Trevor Lacey and Malik Newman can tell you that. Good luck to him.
