After being forced to re-route from Minneapolis for Matthew Hurt this afternoon, Kentucky head coach John Calipari made a trip to California to see 2020 five-star forward Matur Maker.

He tweeted out the news this evening:

Maker, a 6-foot-11, 235-pound prospect out of Orange Lutheran (CA), is considered a top-15 prospect on both 247 Sports and

Cousin of Detroit Pistons forward and former Kentucky target Thon Maker, Maker holds offers from Oregon, USC, and UCLA, with interest coming from Kentucky, Kansas, and Auburn.

Like Thon, Makur is just under seven feet tall, but maintains an impressive face-up game and guard skills. He can run the floor, handle the ball, and consistently knock down jump shots, but still possesses solid post moves, along with strong defensive and rebounding instincts like a true big man.

His name carried weight to start his high school career, and now, his talent is starting to match that hype.

Take a look at some of his recent highlights:

Dude looks as polished as his brother, and Thon Maker is already a decent rotation player in the NBA. Agree, he’d be an awesome fit whether he’s able to reclassify or not.

Cue Bashburn/Slater/BigolBlew/VCat who will say he looks like a puke player.

He’s actually considering reclassifying… not sure why they left that out of the article.

If I remember right his deal was just controversy over whether or not he was draft eligible for some reason, age concerns maybe.

Be awesome if Sea of Blue is correct. I am hoping he would be interested in the Cats
and that is why Cal visited him.

We have been in need of a big man that can start a fast break. This guy has better handles than some of the guards on his team. Face up game is strong and extremely quick first step for his size. Already bigger than Thon, but still needs to put on some weight to be more comfortable banging down low and in traffic. These recruiting services are doing him injustice! He should be ranked way higher IMO

I agree WildcatNation I don’t know how he isn’t ranked higher…. I would really love to get this kid and I can’t believe that all the blue bloods haven’t already offered this kid!!! Come on Cal offer this kid and go all in on him no matter when he is going to play college ball
