John Calipari is back on the recruiting trail

Monday marks the beginning of a new recruiting period in college basketball and John Calipari did not waste any time getting out on the road (or in the air) to see some of Kentucky’s top targets.

Calipari began the new recruiting period with a stop in Orlando to visit a couple of Montverde Academy stars, Scottie Barnes and Cade Cunningham, in the Class of 2020. The two Montverde teammates are five-star prospects ranked in the top 10 nationally: Cunningham, a combo guard, is the No. 2 overall player in the class; Barnes, a small forward, is ranked eighth overall.

It is believed that Kentucky trails for both players at this time. Cunningham lists Kentucky among his finalists, but his brother, Cannen Cunningham, was hired as an assistant at Oklahoma State over the summer in an obvious move to lure the younger Cunningham to Stillwater for college basketball.

Barnes was the first member of the class to earn a Kentucky offer, but he also has eyes for Oregon and Florida State, and has official visits set for both schools in the coming months.

Calipari isn’t giving up on either, which was made clear Monday morning when he prioritized them on his flight schedule.

He is expected to see Terrence Clarke, who will announce a decision later this week, in Boston later today.

WOW!! This is why you can never count out John Calipari!! When Barns became the first official offer I was definitely hoping he would become a cat. This guy is pure energy and plays with Dramond Green passion. A lot of kids have improved and caught up to his skill level, but still, none plays harder and he will have a great career. Love to him him but doubt we get him.

Cunningham!!! what can we say besides what’s already been said. He’s a unbelievable player and if we actually get him, hand Kentucky the title. Lol. Maybe not easy, but with the other players we’re going to get it would be a dream for sure.

    Go get’em Coach.
