With coronavirus cases on the rise across Kentucky, the state’s largest school system is considering putting sports on pause. According to WDRB, Jefferson County Public Schools will decide on Thursday whether or not to suspend athletics due to the high number of cases in Louisville. The decision would only impact games for next week, so this Friday’s football games would still go on as scheduled.
Per the latest numbers from the Louisville Public Health and Wellness Department, Louisville is a coronavirus “red zone,” with an average of 28.9 cases per 100,000 people. In September, JCPS said it would halt sports if numbers reached that stage. Last week, there were 1,552 total confirmed cases in Louisville, with eight deaths.
