2015 small forward Jaylen Brown picked up an offer from the Cats back in April, and is considered the second best small forward in his class. The Marietta, Georgia native has offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Georgia, and others, and 63% of the experts on 247 Sports’ Crystal Ball think he’ll commit to Kentucky.
Brown is writing a blog for USA Today, and in the latest entry, says some of the coaches recruiting him “gotta chill out a little bit.”
I don’t talk to coaches all the time; that’s just not me. I don’t understand why we’d have to talk every week about the same things. I understand if a coach wants to check up on a guy maybe every other week or every month, but every week; that’s just too much for me.
It was kinda weird at first, having to tell a grownup not to call me too much; at first I just wouldn’t answer the phone or wouldn’t reply to the text. Now I’m getting older and if they’re blowing up my phone I’ll let them know, in a respectable way, they’ve gotta chill out a little bit.
(Shockingly, Indiana hasn’t offered him yet. This has Tom Crean all over it.)
If you’ll remember, Calipari said during the ESPN All-Access series that he doesn’t like calling recruits that much “you’re 17 and I’m 50ish. What are we going to talk about?”. Brown did say that he wants to take official visits to UK and UCLA, and when he talks to the UK staff, he likes that they tell him what he needs to improve on instead of praising him:
“Then Kentucky talks about what I need to do to get better, and it’s good to hear stuff like that too because what you usually hear is why different schools are the perfect fit for you.”
