Jaquan Lyle confirms allegations to NCAA

Jaquan Lyle is one of the recruits named in Katina Powell’s book of allegations against the Louisville basketball program. Now a freshman at Ohio State, Lyle spoke to the NCAA yesterday and, according to CBSSports.com, confirmed the gist of allegations involving paid escorts during his trip to the school.

“He told the truth,” a source told Gary Parrish.

Lyle committed to Louisville in June of 2013, then decommitted two and a half months later. If he did indeed confirm what Powell wrote in her book, he could really hurt the Cardinals’ hopes of getting out of this alive.

The pieces are beginning to fall into place. Things aren’t looking good for Louisville.

This could be pretty bad for the Cards…it sucks that this could be the the final defining moment of Pitino’s great career. I’m a true Cat fan and have always respected the way Pitino coaches, but this will become what he is known for; whether he knew about it or not.

Agree! The only quote Gary Parrish has is, “He told the truth.” How does that confirm allegations? The truth about what? Gary must have some other off the record information to be able to say Lyle confirmed allegations.

    • BobKYCats
      12:17 pm October 8, 2015 Permalink

@duff, you may agree, but you’d be wrong.

First paragraph: Ohio State freshman JaQuan Lyle spoke with an NCAA investigator this week about his recruiting visit to Louisville in June 2013 and confirmed the gist of allegations involving paid escorts during his trip to the school, a source with knowledge of the NCAA’s investigation told CBS Sports on Thursday morning.

    • CatsFanFrankfort
      12:21 pm October 8, 2015 Permalink

ChicagoCat: All it says is that a source said about Lyles, ‘He told the truth’. Not that the what he told the NCAA necessarily confirmed the allegations in the book. The only quote we have is that one. To be honest, I think its kind of sloppy reporting on Parrish’s part. And Drew just took what he had said and linked it, so its not his fault. This just doesn’t seem too concrete at the moment. He just cited a source as saying that the kid ‘told the truth’. I think there isn’t much to see here yet.

    • CatsFanFrankfort
      12:24 pm October 8, 2015 Permalink

BobKYCats, duff did mention the exact paragraph you just linked, if you would read the entire post. The first part of that article just says he confirmed it, and the only support for that was a quote from a source saying Lyle ‘told the truth’. Like I said, it seems pretty sloppy at this point. To me, that is not confirming what was written in the book at all.

lolz the trolls are grasping here. Yes, it only quoted the “he told the truth” part, but it did say he confirmed the gist of the allegations; anyone with common sense would know that Gary was told more than just “he told the truth.” Maybe he didn’t want to sell out his source by quoting more, but no one has to prove anything to you, Cards fans…they’re just giving you a preview of what’s about to go down with your program (“go down” pun intended)

    • Duff
      1:49 pm October 8, 2015 Permalink

Bobby, where’s the quote that confirms Lyle said the allegations are true? Like you said above, “MAYBE he didn’t want to sell out his source,” but that’s all you have is a maybe. Im not saying the allegations are not true, because they more than likely are, but what I am saying is I think it’s a little premature of Parrish to come out and say Lyle confirmed allegations when the only quote of record he has is, “he told the truth.” Not basing my that on common sense, just the facts the article conveyed.

    • Booby Petrino
      2:34 pm October 8, 2015 Permalink

It’s Booby, not Bobby. “where’s the quote that confirms Lyle said…” …he doesn’t have to tell you every quote he got. This is fresh info, he’s not giving you all the details but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have them. The “facts” aren’t in the article but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. You can sit here and keep hoping the other quotes don’t come out and tell yourself this isn’t true, and I’ll sit here and laugh at you as more info sinks your ghetto program.

Man, get off of this ‘Louisville troll’ thing, just because I don’t agree with this one bit of evidence in this certain article. It drives me absolutely crazy that the go-to thing for commenters on here is to say someone is a Louisville fan every time they might slightly disagree with something. It makes us as UK fans look like idiots, and obsessed with Louisville. All I was saying is that I don’t thing the writer of this ‘breaking news’ article has shown enough support to say he allegations were confirmed, based solely on the things actually said or confirmed by Lyle, in this article. I just don’t think this is exactly a death knoll for UofL just yet. I am sure it will come, but this isn’t it yet.

Chill the f*ck about; not everyone who disagrees with you is a UofL fan. It makes you look pathetic and paranoid to think so.

Truly sad for a hall of fame coach to have this go on under his watch. I still Pitino stays at Louisville, unless they directly connect him to what was going on. What better option does Louisville have? I don’t believe he would have condoned any of this if he knew. It’s about the stupidest thing you could possibly tolerate and I don’t think Pitino is that stupid. He has done stupid things, but “stupid is, as stupid does.” That is all.

    • ukjaybrat

I’ve listened to his interviews quite a few times this week. and the messed up part is that he never says these things “didn’t” happen. and he keeps saying he’s shocked not that it happened, but that it happened in the dorms.

Reading (probably way too far) into it, it sounds like he’s saying that he knew what was going on, but didn’t know it was happening in the dorms.

I’m sorry but this doesn’t make any sense? The word of One Player, I agree it should be enough…However to all those UK fans out there dreaming about the hangmen’s noose tightening around Tommy Turtle and Rick Pitino’s neck….have to remember one thing here..UofL is now a brand new member of NCAA’s personal league that plays under the name of the ACC…How many ACC schools has ever been busted.. How many times has the NCAA looked the way when its one of their own, “”ACC “” program….Think about it…They get special treatment, always has, while others got the axe….
Its this reason, I don’t see the NCAA rules committee coming down on Louisville just yet. .It will take a lot more than just One player recruit to prove it, or to make the NCAA act…Oh sure they will say they are investigating the issue, but rest assured, they will more then likely say, ,Not evidence to prove the case was found and drop the case…..

If the Jaquan Lyle thing is true then that means that McGee was helping UL get recruits after he left the university. Wouldn’t that also imply that someone else on UL’s staff had to be communicating to McGee to get him to set up the shows?

I am a true Cardinal fan and while I admit past discretions of Cardinal Coaches, I as a fan of Louisville Basketball (and ALL Cardinal Sports) cannot hire the coaches that the University brings in; all I can do I cheer on my teams against whomever they may play. You CAT fans know turmoil in your program and most of you wish bad things on The University Of Louisville, but I wouldn’t tear down your instate rival too much because your basketball coach is a PROVEN cheater and EVERYONE in America thinks he is slime. You can throw your stones all you want, but always remember this: people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones…….and I PROMISE you that SOON the NCAA will be coming for UK AND CAL and I guarantee it will be harsh. Louisville can be the door mat for now, and we will admit our wrong doings and suffer the consequences. Will YOU?

I’m still waiting for this proof that Cal is a cheater.

      “PROVEN”
That word doesn’t mean what you think it does.

Cal has never even been implicated in any wrong doing.

Thanks for your insignificant personal guarantee. Look at facts. The NCAA would love to burn Cal, problem is he is running a clean program at UK.
Don’t let the facts cloud your ignorance.

Pitino has been directly implicated by the NCAA previously. Cal has not.

Is this a joke, again? Like it was said earlier, it’s really hard to tell if this is a Cardinal fan or a parody bc they really do sound exactly alike.

I find it funny that your program is being invested for something like this, but you want to talk about Cal and UK. Cal has NEVER been named in ANY wrong doing and that’s nothing but fact. But on the other hand, you have Roy Williams who left Kansas on probation and all the UNC academic scandal and no one seems to mention him. Cal is one of the cleanest coaches out there…period. If he wasnt, he would not be in the HOF. Not to mention, Cal has a pretty good reputation whereas your coach is none for his 15 seconds of fame. I guess when you think about it, it really shouldnt be all that surprising. You Cardinal fans are grasping at straws here. Cal has OWNED you, on the court and in recruiting and you are showing how desperate you really are. If Cal was dirty, the NCAA would have busted him already. But unlike Lville, we have a GREAT AD and a GREAT compliance officer in Sandy Bell. So it’s time to accept that your team is the one in trouble here.

Everyone thinks OUR coach is slime? What do you think they say about the Ricky / Bobby show in Louisville? You have spent more time on probation than we ever have and have been on probation TWICE since we have including getting slapped with repeat offender status. Difference is we have cleaned up our program since 25 years ago and your program is at an all time new low.

I bet the NCAA would love to see some of that proof that Cal is a cheater you know about. They couldn’t find any when they looked at the Memphis and UMASS incidents.

I’ve noticed a great many UL fans claiming that they are fine because tOSU isn’t worryed about Lyle’s eligibility. I think they need to be reminded of the Aaron Craft situation where Craft was found to have received an impermissibly benefit from then UT coach Bruce Pearl (which led to the eventual termination of Pearl) but Craft went on to play for tOSU with no hit to his eligibilty.

Lyle won’t be in trouble at all. If anything he was a victim of a sex crime. The NCAA will have their focus solely on UL

I don’t believe for one minute that there isn’t but a handful of programs out there that do not “bend the rules” in some way, shape or form. It’s all a matter of who can get away with it! I’m not surprised in the least at what I hear anymore! I will be curious to see how Jurich handles this one though. Pitino should be fired if the allegations are true. But will he?

I think at the most there may be a suspension. Jurich will keep his cash cow no matter the cost.

“bend the rules” and “hire underage prostitutes for underage recruits” are two very different things.

Ironic, it was an Ohio State recruit that switched from Tennessee in Aaron Craft that took down Bruce Pearl and now an Ohio State recruit that might just take down Rick Pitino.

I remember the day the news broke that “Traitor Rick” accepted the coaching position at little brother. Cardinal Fans came out of the woodwork to give me a rough time, wearing t-shirts with the “Got Pitino” printed on them. I remember telling them then, congratulations for the hire, but I promise, as sure as the sun shines at noon, he will break your heart and leave little brother beaten down to their knees. I was reminded of my statement, by the fans of little brother, after they won the NCAA championship. I told them again, it will happen, and it will not be long. His ego will not let it go.
They laughed at me then. Not a damned one of them have the balls to say anything to me now.
This is a sad day for the commonwealth, a very sad and humiliating situation for the University of little brother. McGee, the player that gave so much to the program and a Pitino loyalist will fall on his sword for the university. Too bad they are not looking for the source of the money.
Blaming McGee for this, is not brining justice. He was the one implicated, but never will be taken care of, just hung out to dry. Maybe he will also turn evidence to the NCAA about the little brother methods of recruiting, to the police or NCAA to work out a deal? Who knows, it is just beginning?

but he went to school there. played there! you think he will snitch on his alma mater ? he’ll never be welcome back again (ok he’ll never be welcome back again anyway). But will Pitino slick talk him into keeping his mouth shut?

They were talking on the Jason Anderson show yeseterday that someone in louisville was sending out the orders to mcgee who was in kansas already. who has the pull to get mcgee to get stuff done from 9 hours away? who else but the top dogs?
