J.B. Holmes Struggles Down the Stretch at TPC-Sawgrass

It was too good to be true.

This year the Kentucky football team stayed at the scenic TPC-Sawgrass during TaxSlayer Bowl week. It was only fitting that one of Kentucky’s finest was the leader at The Players Championship through 54 holes.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be.

Holmes started the day at -9.  He finished the day at +3 after shooting a final round score of 84.  A double bogey on seven started his downward slide.  He bogeyed two of his next three holes and had back-to-back bogeys on 14 and 15.  Things went from bad to worse to a complete disaster on 17.

Holmes’ day was about as bad as it gets, but as the saying goes, “There’s no such thing as a bad day on the golf course.”

It was a great first three days for him. Just a tough one today. I was there for his round Saturday and it was good to cheer for him in person.
