It Looks Like Kentucky will have a Great National Signing Day

If all goes according to plan, Mark Stoops will be smiling from ear to ear on National Signing Day.

Tomorrow’s National Signing Day has a different feel than any other.  Instead of 20+ prospects signing, there will only be a handful thanks to the Early Signing Period.  Stoops and Vince Marrow used that opportunity to lock up an excellent class.  Here are the 20 who have already signed on the dotted line:

There is room for Kentucky to add up to five more players tomorrow.  Two have already committed to join the 2017 class, 6’9 350-pound offensive tackle Nick Lewis and Alabama All-State wide receiver LiAllen Dailey.  That leaves room for a few more studs to roll the dice.

The top two targets on Kentucky’s board are outside linebacker Chris Oats and running back Kavosiey Smoke.  Stoops, Marrow and Co. spent the last month searching for a few “needs” and the “best available” prospects.  Landing Smoke is a “need” and Oats is considered “best available.”  The Good News: I’m confident Smoke and Oats will sign with Kentucky tomorrow.  There’s a slight chance Smoke spurns UK for North or South Carolina, but I’m willing to bet a mortgage payment that Oats picks UK over Ohio State.

Kentucky’s 2018 class is currently ranked No. 37.  The two additions would move Kentucky up to No. 32, just ahead of UofL.

Smoke and Oats might not be the only surprise NSD additions.  There’s room for one more player and that might be former UK baseball signee Trevon Flowers.  The superstar shortstop was released from his National Letter of Intent by Nick Mingione after an excellent year on the football field as a free safety.  Flowers could turn down Tennessee to play two sports at the University of Kentucky.

All of the excitement will begin around 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.  Tomorrow’s coverage might look a little different, but as always, we’ll have everything you need right here on KSR.

Unfortunately, We are still 9th in the SEC.

There is another way to say this. UK’s recruiting rank within the SEC is climbing.

9th in the SEC is pretty darned solid.

      5:45 pm February 6, 2018 Permalink

I agree, 9th in the SEC is great compared to 2nd to last like we use to have. And top 35 is good. Now we got to develop.

I’m not trying to be negative. I’m just stating facts. Stoops has got better classes and the big dogs in the SEC are still way ahead of us in recruiting. I hope we have some great players in this class and they all sound like solid prospects but my goal is to win the SEC and settling for anything else is… settling for mediocrity. I don’t think we are a mediocre program. We have the facilities, the stadium and we’ve proven we can win 7 games and make a bowl. At this point I would’ve expected a bigger jump in recruiting.

Also according to rivals Louisville is ahead of us at 29. And Missouri and Vandy are not far behind us at 34 and 35. They have a slightly better day than us tomorrow and they both leap frog us and we slide to 11th in SEC.

It’s fine to be hyped out and have a wait and see attitude; UK football fans have earned that right over many decades. But I do believe things are looking up.

Naysayers be gone. No room here for negativity. Find another team to follow. Looking forward to tomorrow. BTW the same folks complain about basketball. Never satisfied.

Hate to say it, but the four and five star kids are the ones that we need to improve our W/L numbers. I love Stoops and his coaches but…

Low 30’s usually every year even with joker. Nothing new here

False. You seem to be a low information poster.

BigBlueNationDude you need to check the facts before you speak. Like most, I believed UK underachieved last year, but the recruiting ranking prove your statement completely false. Joker had three recruiting classes. The SEC expanded to 14 teams starting with the 2012 recruiting class.
      2010 – #11 SEC, #50 nationally
      2011- #11 SEC, #61 nationally
      2012 – #14 SEC, #62 nationally

      2013 – #13 SEC, #29 nationally
      2014 – #9 SEC, #17 nationally
      2015 – #13 SEC, #35 nationally
      2016 – #10 SEC, #28 nationally
      2017 – #10 SEC, #26 nationally

It isn’t always about recruiting but saying recruiting hasn’t improved from Joker to Stoops is completely false

      6:48 pm February 6, 2018 Permalink

Joker was substantially worse at recruiting. But this class is par for the course for Stoops. In fact 32nd would be his second to last class since he’s been here. I thought we’d be top 20 by this point especially now that we have the facilities and the stadium.

A good class like previous classes under Stoops. Grading a class depends on what one’s goals are.

The idiots implying we need to develop better, need to understand something.

Without getting better players than 9 other SEC teams, the Cats have been very competitive with those above them in the rankings. People try to spin it that Florida and UT are just “down” but they’ve been getting much higher rated classes than this staff for years based on their previous rep as a football school.

The teams above UK are getting outcoached if we are anywhere close to beating them.

That’s at least partially correct but a lot goes into that besides coaching. If your QB has an off day , home vs away, injuries, players leaving early for the NFL, officiating etc. But I’ll agree that our coaches have done more with less than say Florida for example.
