Is Willie Cauley-Stein Out of Shape?

According to James Ham of CSN, Willie Cauley-Stein showed up to Sacramento Kings’ camp out of shape. On the Coz and Bru show, Ham said “when you show up to camp and can’t run up and down the court without being so winded you have to pull yourself off the court, something is wrong.”

Now, this doesn’t exactly sounds like Cauley-Stein, who is known for being uber-athletic and always hustling. Could he be out of shape? It’s possible. But, it could also be Cauley-Stein’s sickle cell trait disorder acting up. Just a reminder sickle cell trait does affect endurance and can make it hard for Cauley-Stein to breathe.

Let’s hope it’s just a small battle with the trait and not being out of shape. As always, these things will play out and we’ll find out exactly what happened down the road. But, for the time being let’s all give Willie Trill some support as he starts his NBA career.

Well, Bobby Reagan, since WCS himself said that he was getting winded after two trips uno the court and vowed never to come into training camp out of shape again – I’d say he was just out of shape.

    WCS always hustles? That’s news.

Or it could be the fact that he’s getting dabbed out and posting pictures of him high AF on instagram lol

Not a single picture like that as far back as I looked, and certainly none since the draft. Go back to your crumbling empire of whores and weep upon the rubble.

I suppose it may be a little of all the above. I have seen a lot of reports that WCS has been spending large amounts of time in the weight room trying to bulk up. He could be a little winded but it won’t take long to get in shape.

    It’s called an off-season for a reason.

If you aren’t training during the off season then you aren’t going to get too far in the pros. The day of Cal is over for Willie…time to actually prove his game rather than display his lack of good sportsmanship as he did when Wisconsin beat us.

Looks like Cats Paw is back, using my name now. What a loser. 1-7, bitch. Cal owns you.

Hope that banner stays up!! 😉

I think WCS battles this sickle cell thing more than we realize. I think that is a large part of the reason that WCS would be so wildly inconsistent. He look very lethargic in the game against Wisconsin, almost like he was in slow motion. I wish WCS all the best and hope he gets this thing under control.

Bobby, you must have missed about 30% of our games the last few seasons and especially our last game last season. Otherwise you would know that WCS does not always hustle. Sometimes you can’t even tell he is on the court.

Won’t be long before he is in the D leagues. Willie is more about himself than he is basketball. His play during the tourney was proof of the pudding….hanging around the basket waiting for the ball to come to him rather than showing hustle and determination. His photo the other day snoozing on the bus was another example. Seems like Willie is always trying to catch a nap….probably tired from all of that tweeting.

We own your program, troll. And think, just when you all were out of being recognized as a tier-2 ghetto commuter school, you go and f_ck it up with a scandal, and back down to second-rate program you go. Smh…. 😀

I couldn’t agree with you more on this. Evidence: UK vs. Wisconsin 33 minutes 2 points and only 5 rebounds.

I don’t have a lot of objectivity when it comes to Willie, based on is tendency to fade when we needed him the most. He was a no show last year against Wisconsin, which was clearly the most important game of his college career and a game that had historic significance for Kentucky. Willie compounded his inexplicable lack of effort with a sad demonstration of poor sportsmanship, leaving the court without shaking the hands of Wisconsin players. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. If Willie plays inconsistently as he did at Kentucky, his career in the NBA will be fleeting.

One thing I’ve noticed about this website and comment section…anytime you dare say anything negative about a UK player or the program you are accused of being a Louisville troll. Just because as a UK fan you choose to refuse to drink the big blue Kool-Aid on occasion and call it the way you see it doesn’t mean you’re a red bird.

I think Willie is going to have a good pro career. There are several NBA players who are out of shape coming back from offseason.

I gave up on UK basketball when they lost to Wisconsin. Not because they lost, but for the reason we have a program that apparently tolerates poor sportsmanship as was displayed in the loss to Wisconsin. Cal explained they are kids…..well, they’re all kids at that level. And as I see it, anyone that condones or tolerates that type of behavior is pure sh*t. Call me what you want Kentucky fans ’cause I know what you are….it was demonstrated very clearly on national television and of all places…the Final Four. BTW…Willie was the first to walk off the court without the handshakes and for that, I don’t wish him any success at all.

Aww.. Sorry that hurt your feelings so much. It’s been over 5 months since the game and you’re still here posting, so you must not understand what “giving up” means.

You should follow UofL basketball. Their star player last year needlessly threw a ball off a helpless defenders face. Another one faked an elbow to the jaw for 5 minutes. Faked it. Poorly. Oh, and hookers. Tons of hookers. 😉
