Happy NBA Draft Day, friends, or, as John Calipari calls it, Graduation Day.
Tonight, Kevin Knox, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Hamidou Diallo, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Wenyen Gabriel will wait to hear their names called, a realization of a lifelong dream. This will be in flux throughout the day, but here are Jonathan Givony’s latest projections on where Kentucky’s guys will go:
- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 6. Orlando Magic
- Kevin Knox: 9. New York Knicks
- Hamidou Diallo: 41. Orlando Magic
- Jarred Vanderbilt: 46. Houston Rockets
Wenyen Gabriel will likely be undrafted, but after working out for a bevy of teams, has a great chance of landing a summer league spot.
John Calipari is in New York for the festivities and is making the media rounds, already appearing on ESPN’s “Get Up” to talk about his guys. Look who he ran into on the set:

Odds Calipari dropped a Reid Travis reference? Please??
I’ll bring you anything Cal says outside of the standard draft day chatter, the start of a long day of coverage here at KSR. Keep an ear out for Drew’s meows to find out where Kentucky’s guys go, and join the party on our live blog. ESPN’s broadcast of the Draft starts at 7 p.m., and it will actually be worth watching because…
No Woj bombs!
Adrian Wojnarowski and other NBA reporters like Shams Charania have agreed not to tweet out picks before they happen, making tonight’s draft coverage a million times better.
The Reid Travis excitement continues
Still excited about Reid Travis’ commitment? Me too. I wrote about this yesterday, but with Travis now in the fold, Kentucky has all the pieces they need to make a national championship run. Draft news will dominate the day, but we’ll continue to talk about Travis, including an interview with a Stanford beat writer I did last night that I think you’ll really like. After hearing how great of a person and player he is, I’m convinced he’s the most important addition to the roster.
How much is life about to change for the Stanford grad? He took his first photo with a fan yesterday in the Bluegrass Airport:

It made mine too.
You should take your kid to the John Calipari Satellite Camp in Frankfort
Sunday’s John Calipari Satellite Camp in Frankfort is going to be a special one. Not only is the camp itself amazing, it’s the first time Reid Travis will appear with the team, meaning you’ll have the chance to get the first unofficial team picture. The camp, open to kids K-12, is Sunday 1-4 p.m. at Franklin County High School and there are still spots available. To register, visit UKAthletics.com.
Mississippi State fan’s fake story going viral
Mississippi State fan Terry Powell just about broke the internet yesterday when he told KMTV 3 News that his wife’s boyfriend sold his prosthetic leg on Craigslist so he could make the trip to Omaha to see the Bulldogs in the College World Series:
"My wife's boyfriend sold his prosthetic leg on Craigslist to afford me the opportunity to be here, but they get alone time and I get a chance to be in Omaha.”
Incredible troll job here from Mississippi State fan. Never broke character. LOVE IT.pic.twitter.com/Ng8ArkmhsC

I’d say this is obviously fake news, but Starkville is a weird place, so who knows.
If you have a chance to to see Paul Simon, do it
Last night, my husband and I went to Paul Simon’s farewell tour, and although we were some of the younger people there, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I was surprised how many songs I knew and how Simon’s still got it after all these years. Sadly, he didn’t play my favorite, “Cecila,” (although he did play some of his other hits with Garfunkel) but he brought the place down with favorites like “You Can Call Me Al” and “Me and Julio Down by the School Yard.” Being there took me back to riding around in my dad’s car growing up, which brings me to…
A Heartfelt Thank You
I’ll be totally honest, I wasn’t sure how my post about my dad on Father’s Day would go over (as my mother said, who wants to read something so sad?), so I’ve been floored by the outpouring of support from you guys this week. Writing about something that personal is not easy, especially when just talking about my dad’s illness makes me tear up, so believe me when I say that each comment, tweet, and email I’ve received means the world. Seeing how much people relate to our stories is giving me the strength I need to continue writing them. Maybe by Father’s Day next year I’ll have an entire book.
Enough of that…
