University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

I guess we better watch Shaun Kirk’s mixtape

Let’s call it like it is, Kentucky fans…

John Calipari is getting desperate.

The news of a new scholarship offer to a three-star forward, this late in the process, signals desperation for UK on the recruiting front. This new offer likely means there’s not a lot of confidence in landing Jaylen Brown and Cheick Diallo this week. Could those guys still commit to UK? Yeah, it’s possible. But leading off a huge recruiting day with this new offer isn’t a glowing sign of hope for the fan base.

Then again, maybe Cal saw Shaun Kirk’s athleticism over the weekend and likes the potential to mold him into a player. I don’t know. I’m not in John Calipari’s head. Maybe he extended the scholarship offer just in case he misses on the other two. Again, I don’t know.

But offering the No. 192 player in the 247Sports Composite Rankings on April 27 isn’t the Kentucky basketball recruiting we’re used to seeing under Cal.

I will say, however, Kirk is VERY athletic. I’m in no way spinning this into THIS GUY IS A STEAL!, but we will be the biggest fans of Shaun Kirk if he does indeed end up at Kentucky after this new offer.

Still hoping for Diallo and/or Brown, though.

Depressing. Go from top 10 recruits to JUCO transfers and NC St commits. The month of suck continues…

We still have the #3 recruiting class. That is our worst case scenario. Step back from the ledge.

      Obvious troll is trolling again.

      And it’s “crazed” not “crazzed”.

Reminds me of a young Shawn Kemp back in the day. People need to realize there is always a backlash to success. We are not going to get all the great recruits every year.We are going to have a very talented team. This past season we started out at #1, there is only one direction to go when you start on top. I’d prefer to start the season at 4 or 5. It will give us something to work for.
    GO CATS !!

Looks like we need to brace ourselves as a fan base for a year not much different from the 2013 season. Hopefully there won’t be a devastating injury that leads us to the NIT but it won’t be like this past season by far!

not much different than 2013? That’s ridiculous. Ulis > Harrow, Brisco > Archie, Experienced Poythress > freshman Poythress, Nerlens = Skal, Lee & Hawkins & Willis & Matthews > Wiltjer & Hood & Freshman WCS & Polson

This is extremely rude and inappropriate. How would you feel is someone said that about your kid?

Agree – I would think this kid would be a SF. Probably speaks more about Brown’s recruitment than Diallo.

Why make such a fuss about what Coach Cal does or doesn’t do? He has done great for us, so give him a break. Some of your comments hurts recruiting but I guess you don’t care?

what was Hawkins or Willis rated … whatever … nothing wrong with some 4 year players … we need bodies to practice 5 on 5 and grabbing some 5’9″, 150 pound scrub water boy from the jersey shore doesn’t help with that, this guy would help

Agreed. Even if we get Brown and Diallo, we need bodies for practice! We also need guys who can come off the bench and provide a few minutes of PT.

Reminds me of a slightly smaller Marcus Lee. Kid is very athletic, although probably limited on offense. If we get Mulder, and by some miracle Murray, and add this kid for some depth and possibly defense, we may be better than some of the bandwagon fans would want to believe. Let’s just see how the recruiting season wraps up, and give these kids a chance to show us what they can do before we start ragging on this class. And by give them a chance, I don’t mean start bitching if we are not undefeated in mid January. The 2014 season should have taught us that it takes a while for a team full of new players to gel.

Judging by his “mixtape,” he looks like a pretty talented kid. He might be better than the ratings suggest. Perhaps Cal saw something that he liked when he watched him play. If Cal based his recruiting solely on the ratings, then why would he ever bother to go watch a kid? I trust that Calipari knows what he’s doing.

Remember we are replacing 10 souls not just 7. Cal has a little wiggle room with this. I strongly believe we will get Mulder and let us not forget that Tai Wynyard may reclassify for 2015 and could be on the floor by the start of SEC play.

We are talking about a 4 Star Small Forward in Shaun Kirk (according to 24/7).

Dumpster Diving is more than a little extreme.

If he can shoot a mid range or a 3 he would be dangerous on a drive with those hops.

Maybe he is a little late bloomer, and will turn into a star.
Maybe he is a Gerald Fitch or Ramel Bradley (Former 3/4 Star Guys).
I think if he comes in and works hard, Cal will make him a contributor.

everybody wants to complain and brace themselves for a bad year…. just remember the year with B. Knight… if I’m not mistaken, that team went to the final 4… I’m not saying we will in 2016, but to rule out Kentucky and automatically say that we’re going to have a bad year because we’re offering a 3 star guy is completely asinine.

Here you go again Drew, opening up a blog for trolls and basketball recruiting experts. How do you or anyone know what Cal sees in this young man? With all the great recruits Cal has brought in I would think he knows a little more than we know. I don’t think that coach Cal recruits out of fear loss.

Some of you in this blog need to send in an application to help Cal in his lack of recruiting success for the coming season. According to this article Cal is getting desperate and needs all the help he can get.

Stop it. We lost SEVEN players to the draft and three walk-ons. We need bodies for practice. We have Skal, Briscoe, and Matthews coming in. Who will fill the other four slots? This kid is extremely athletic and it boggles the mind how someone that athletic only warranted three stars. He looks like Michael Qualls on some of those dunks.

That Cal offered this kid a scholarship says nothing about our chances of getting Diallo (who is a four, btw) or Brown (who will not be pushed out of the starting lineup by any other player out there). We are filling out our roster people. Nothing more.

I understand what you’re saying but this would be a complete shift in Cal’s recruiting. Cal has never given out scholarships just to fill out a roster – he either goes with the players he has and/or takes walk-ons to do that. Hawkins is really the only player out of high school who has gotten a scholarship without being a top-100 player, and that’s because he played so well in the KY high school tournament and had played well against the Harrison twins before. So, offering this kid a scholarship is kind of concerning. Yes, he does appear to be very athletic, but so was Floreal. Athleticism doesn’t make you a good basketball player.
