If Jimmy Dykes wants to call the game from the baseline, that’s fine. He probably started to smell Tom Leach’s Garlic and Onion Mingua Beef Jerky and wanted to get away. But why do we need to see him in picture in picture while he’s watching the game? I hope Jimmy Dykes gets his own reality show on the SEC Network where all it is, is the over the shoulder Jimmy Dykes cam

Cal wants guys to play well and go to NBA when they’re ready…. as a fan, do we?

Do we want Poythress to continue to play well and go to NBA after season? or do we want him to stick around (meaning he likely doesn’t continue to play as well, consistently)?

Last Night, Tom and Mike are trying to keep it professional at that dumb timeout with 1 minute to go by Texas A & M….then our boy Matt jumps in with both feet and calls Billy Kennedy out and then slaps ESPN for making a buck on it…..this is why we love you Matt….CLASSIC!

    Matt:

I heard you say yesterday that Karl Towns is not elite. You are wrong. Karl is an elite player. The only reason why you havent heard a ton about him is because he doesnt play AAU which is where players are seen the most and generate the most hype. Another reason is because scouts, both NBA and college, dont know what to make of him. A 7’0 guy with a guard like feel for the game, guard like handles, great court vision, a solid post game plus a guy that literally can step out an fill it up well beyond NBA range. Last year he shot 47% from 3. This year so far he is shooting a sizzling 52% from 3. People just dont know what to lable him…. but he IS elite. He could steal that #1 overall pick in 2015 draft. He is like a Durant just not as much athleticism.

Rewatch that Poythress dunk. He was going for the layup. He has his hand under the ball going for a finger roll, then right before the rim palms it and flips his hand on top of the ball and slams it down. It was incredible to see in slow motion.

Does it bother anyone else that we never get any easy baskets? I am not sure if that is because we don’t have many steals that lead to breakaways or if this team is just not that fast. I also have noticed James Young lose the ball on several occasions on a fast break. Any comments on that? I remember John Wall and Eric Bledsoe you couldn’t even blink and they were off to the races. The TV camera couldn’t keep up with them. They also don’t blow anyone out. My other thought is that we could press the heck out of every one of these teams and speed the game up and that should result in easy steals and easy baskets.

    • Blue To The Bone ...
      10:27 am January 22, 2014 Permalink

It bothers me , but the reason for this is that Cal doesn’t run a set offense and lets the guys freelance a lot and just worries about getting to the rim and rebounding…The pressing part is never going to happen because the only defense Cal believes in is the man …I think this team would be awesome pressing…Kenny Payne should be great at teaching the press and some high-low offense because he played for a guy who was great at teaching both..

You keep talking about this team and all the potential. This team will never reach its potential because they won’t stay long enough to reach yet. This team is not going to get to a place where they are truly contenders for the championship. I’ll be surprised if they make it to the sweet 16. Just another year of unrealized expectations. This team should be better than it is. And I’m sorry, if this team doesn’t make the final four, it’s a disappointing year. Is that too much to expect from “the greatest recruiting class of all time”?

“This team should be better than it is”, explain how a bunch of 18 year olds are disappointing thus far? They didn’t make the expectations, people like you did! Watch them continue to get better and it won’t be disappointing, compare them to the fab five from Michigan and they are actually in pretty good standing.

I understand 3 point shooting isn’t our strength at the moment, but you have to be confident and knock down the open 3 if it’s there. I didn’t think they forced many threes they were good shots for the most part. Name a championship team that didn’t knock down some threes?

    • Delk for 3

Exactly, if they are open then let it go. I honestly feel if they can get confident and knock down the open threes it opens up everything inside and all of a sudden this team becomes impossible to guard.

All star level point guards in Wall and Bledsoe, backed up by Knight. All star level big men in Cuz and AD, bench support from TJ, PPat and Jorts (and soon Randall and Noel). MKG can play D but not scoring a lot. The don’t have all star level 2 or 3 yet in NBA. Knight could play 2 but not as big as most. They could make the playoffs but probably not win a championship. May change with a few more classes in the NBA.

There are 31,536,000 seconds in a year. If you could fill out a bracket every second it would take you 292 BILLION YEARS to fill out every situation. OK the 16 seeds aren’t winning… Take out 1/16th of the bracket. That’s. 275 Billion years.

Willie has the skills to be able to play himself into a Top 3 pick, but he will not be close to that after this season. If it is in question if he will even be a lottery pick, why would he go? I don’t think he’ll be a lottery pick this year, either. He will languish on a NBA bench for two years or so before actually getting serious playing time.
