Highlights of 2015 UK Recruit Luke Kennard From Last Night

If you don’t know about 2015 recruit Luke Kennard just yet, you should. He is a star player out of Ohio who may be one of the 5-10 best players in the class. He is an outstanding shooter, plus a really good penetrator to the basket. John Calipari covets him as part of the class and has made him a top priority. He plans on deciding this Spring and Kentucky has a key edge…he was a Cats’ fan as a kid and his dad is from Kentucky (fraternity brothers with Buzz Baker at Georgetown). Check out his highlights of his game yesterday, with Calipari and his staff watching from the sidelines.

I was there for this game. Caught Calipari smiling a few times. Tons of Cats fans were in the house.

Dad is NOT from Kentucky, he is from Franklin, Ohio. But the Dad DID play at Georgetown, in Kentucky. Regardless, I hope he is Wildcat. Dad’s extended family is from Kentucky. Paintsville area is where Luke’s grandfather is from, some nice players have come out of that area over the years.

Kids got a good shot, great passer as well. Only thing that worries me is he doesn’t seem to have much speed (or perhaps “burst” is a better word).

“Burst” are you kidding me! We have plenty that have “bursts” we need a shooter and a player that can create separation to shoot. These highlights were against an athletic team. This kid’s games are attended by Duke, NC, UL, UK, The OSU, Michigan and many others. People buy tickets to,watch him play and to see the Who’s Who of the college coaches that attend his games on a regular basis. He is a football player too. How athletic is he, he throws a football with his right hand and shoots jumpers with his left. If you notice he can shoot with either hand in close. “Burst” that’s funny.

We’ll have Tyler Ulis, who should fulfill that role.

It doesn’t matter how good he is he’s the wrong color to get many minutes on a Cal team.

Yes we can find minutes for white 3 star recruits in Jarrod Polson and Josh Harrellson but none for a white 5 star in Luke Kennard…

There is a great story to read about this guy @

He seems like a great kid from reading this. I sure hope he is a UK Wildcat after next year.

I know his family and played ball against his dad and uncles. He is a great kid and he is deceptively quick. He can run and gun and usually scores best in that kind of game. Just not sure UK is the right setting for him.

He won’t get all those inside shots in college. Hope he has some range from outside.

sure he will get shots like that in college and has great range. great player and i mean does it all. will be first round draft pick and that comes from all top level college coaches recruiting him.

#15 no disrespect but our guards get plenty of penetration shots and end up with a bunch of free throws now. That is the dribble drive. He is 6’6″ and can go verticle. He can also drain the three with ease. There are big time schools spending lots of cash flying to watch him play quite often. Could be a special player on a special team.

Here are his stats from this year so far…impressive stats and he’s only a junior.

However, the league he plays in is very weak. He’s not playing high player competition here. Not saying he’s not good, but is 39 PPG might be a little misleading.

also what that tape does not show is dude missed 20 shots last night. He was 12-32 from the field. Now maybe it was just an off night but he missed many more than he made. He did shoot something like 14-16 from free throw line but still that is a ton of shots, took a field goal attempt per minute. I am not saying he is not good but he was not last night, this article is very misleading.

Most of the other recruits are playing a Prep School schedule. He’s playing against regular high school comp. So that is a valid critique.

mashburn fan u have no clue, he had great game. yea shots was not falling but only shoots about 50% for the year. has to shoot that much for that team to win. article not misleading at all you just don’t know a good player when u see one. coach cal and ohio state asst loved him, but your right who are they.

I Agree that Franklin is not playing the stronger teams in the area. Coach Bales will not play Miamisburg, Fenwick, Lebanon, CJ, Alter, etc…He wants to play weak schools or smaller schools. At least the pressure to join some National tournaments/events has allowed for Luke to play strong competition. Even Bales cannot say no to FTTH or Beach Ball classic.

      1:06 pm January 21, 2014 Permalink

so wrong bales will play any of them schools, have to play schools that are in your league can’t do nothing about that. look at non league play, pretty good , flyin to hoop, beach ball classic, springboro, going to louisville ballard what else you want. they dont invite franklin to these tourneys cause of their record or who they play , they invite because they have a top player in the country that everyone wants to watch.

If he goes to Kentucky, lets hope he is a little more of Rex Chapman and not any Chris Harrison.

Kid shoots 46% from 3 while mostly being doubled or more from very deep. Also keep in mind the 38 at FTTH was against the #1 2 guard in the country in Justin Jackson (6’8″) They rotated several big athletic guys his way all night. That wasn’t against swbl talent or the 46 in Myrtle or the 30+ vs all the big teams from Dayton. Not just padding stats vs weak teams, does it against everyone especially with his King James aau team. Love to see him in blue, he is not the “white” guy some of you guys have in mind.

ok, for all you luke haters out there, keep doing it just fuels the fire. obviously you people that down grade have no idea about basketball or you was never anything yourself. it makes you feel better talking down on him because you are so jealous. the kid is unbelievable and there is not weak part about his game. I know his league is not the best but he does same thing all summer against the best talent in the country. you don’t have all big time programs in country fighting for you if not the real deal. plus he is a great and humble kid, carries 4.3 gpa, does so much for kids in the community, donates so much of his time with kids, never says no to them when it comes to autograph and taking pics. he will be in the nba one day and I want you all to remember, hey he too slow or don’t have the burst, cant shoot or shoots too much, can’t play defense , he might as well quit today the way u all put it. really grow up and root for kids who bust their butt to get to where he is.

Chill buddy. No one here is doubting his character or talent. Just because someone doesn’t agree with your opinion on a high school basketball player doesn’t make them jealous and doesn’t mean “you was never anything yourself.” It makes sense for people to look at the competition a player is facing when that player is averaging 39 PPG as a junior. The SWBL isn’t a great basketball league and that should be considered when evaluating this player.

well really no one on this website should be evaluating this kid. calapari, coach k, pitino, matta, belein, roy williams, billy donavan, tom crean, and many more are all fighting over this young man. nothing else needs to be said.
