Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Hey Marques Bolden, did you see Amile Jefferson is back at Duke?

The Duke basketball program received some good news today when the NCAA granted Amile Jefferson a medical hardship waver, allowing him to play one more season in Durham. Jefferson missed all but nine games in his senior season in 2015-16, with an average of 11.4 points and 10.3 rebounds in those appearances. He will be back for a fifth season to lead the Blue Devils inside.

Did you hear that, Marques? Duke has a fifth-year big man coming back.

I’m still trying to figure out how the Duke coaching staff is selling him on the narrative that UK is stacked up front and Duke is NOT. Bolden most likely won’t start for Duke but he will definitely start for UK. There is NO WAY Coach K brings A.Jefferson off the bench, just no way … remember they kept saying he was the key to last season, when he got hurt if effected the team and caused them to lose. They will start Giles, Jefferson, Tatum, aLLEN And Jackson. He just fits so much better with UK. WORLDWIDE talk some senses into this kid!! This should be a easy decision.

It seems like just yesterday Jefferson picked Duke to begin with…his career has trended downward ever since.

does this put duke at their limit for scholarships?

No. They have one left since they told Thornton to hit the road.

i thought they were at 13 before thorton left, making it 12. and now that jefferson is staying puts it back to 13… i can’t find anything concrete, but that’s the way i followed it. i could be wrong though.

My understanding was the 13 counted Jefferson and Thornton.

I think they’re at 13 now unless they have a preferred walk-on or tell someone else to hit the road

I think David Robinson’s kid said he’d walk-on if they needed his scholarship

Why did Alex Poythress never apply for a medical hardship after the 2015 season? He should have been eligible.

      11:08 am April 22, 2016 Permalink

i always thought the same thing. i guess because he knew he was going to graduate anyway. didn’t need to stay in school anymore. hard to predict he was going to have as poor of a season as he did. figured he would just play his senior season and then go to the nba.

    • nybrasky
      11:34 am April 22, 2016 Permalink

Medical hardship waivers are granted at the end of the player’s eligibility. So, if he wanted to apply for one, he could have done so at the end of this year due to last year’s injury. He likely preferred to move on with his life/career.

    • 54Meeks

9 games is the exact NCAA limit. Had he played in 1 more he would be ineligible.

That’s actually only at Duke and every other school. Poythress could have done the same thing.

Bolden needs to look at what happened to Chris Jeter last year at Duke, he got lost on the bench and never played!

Duke is just the worst. Mike Krzyzewski is so overrated too.

This is a gold mine for crybaby K. Bolden comes to Duke sits on the bench and returns next year as the starter. It is like his own farm team as he rotates em in the next year from the bench.

    • Larry Pratt

      You mean Chase Jeter?

    • Megan
      3:16 pm April 22, 2016 Permalink

Jeter is 6’10, 240, and more highly rated than Bolden. He averaged less than 8 minutes, less than 2 rebounds, and less than 2 points a game. Let’s repeat that: Jeter averaged less than a basket per game at Duke last year. And he wasn’t the only big not to flourish.

As a senior, mind you, Plumlee (7′, 250) averaged 8.5 points per game. Not counting FTs, that’s 3 baskets a game. His name does not appear in the mock drafts. Sean Obi (6’9, 265) and Antonio Vrankovic (7′, 270). ‘Nuff said.

What Duke has done with its latest stash of big men isn’t very good advertising for Bolden.

Derryck Thornton averaged 7.1 points a game and transferred.

    bosshogg24, who is Chris Jeter???

    • nybrasky
      11:56 am April 22, 2016 Permalink

An NCAA champion with UNLV. As you know, bosshog was referring to Chase Jeter (who is Chris’ kid). Wouldn’t it have just been easier to point out that the kid’s name is Chase? Especially seeing as he has a point?

    • ukbradstith
      12:19 pm April 22, 2016 Permalink

There is really no bad choice here. I hope he goes to UK obviously, but let’s not act like going to Duke just ruins your career. The guys that didn’t make it at Duke wouldn’t have made it at UK, and vice versa. Cal and K are two of the best, so if he’s good enough, he’s good enough.

Nah, I don’t think it would of been easier. Either way requires at least a sentence. I was just checking to make sure he knew what his real name was. I’m glad you know everything about him. How is the rest of the Jeter family doing by the way????

I don’t want to reply to myself. Why is there not a reply to the right of every post? I appreciate the “add vice” ole pal. With that said, your username should be “What are you talking about Willis?” This ain’t Different Strokes son.

    • WatchutalkinboutWillis
      2:25 pm April 22, 2016 Permalink

      Actually, it is Diff’rent Strokes.
Proper nouns, such as television show titles and usernames don’t necessarily have to follow the same grammatical rules as other parts of speech.

    • sa_hunt
      2:33 pm April 22, 2016 Permalink

Now Arnold, are you sure about the usernames not following grammatical rules??? Are you saying it was “Diff’rent Strokes” because it was a “black” show? That’s what I infer from the usage of the word and the characters on the show. That is not politically correct at all. Which leads me to the question, why would you use that line from a real stinker of a show as your username? Are you really short and relating to Arnold or is there something else?

    • Booby Petrino
      2:48 pm April 22, 2016 Permalink

    • WatchutalkinboutWillis
      2:56 pm April 22, 2016 Permalink

I’m saying it was “Diff’rent Strokes” because that was the actual name of the show. Funny how you don’t like being corrected yet, your first comment was to someone who mistakenly called Chase Jeter, Chris Jeter and made a good point.
P.S. Diff’rent Stokes had two white main characters and two black main characters.

Even if he started at Duke he would be the 4th or 5th option on offense. Coach K would have to sell him on rebounding, setting screens and defending the rim. Duke has too much talent ahead of him. Giles #1 pick, Tatum #2 or #3 pick. Grayson Allen 50% 3 point shooter average 20 a game. Luke Kennard isn’t too bad as well.
