Here’s What Will Happen If Bam Adebayo Picks UK

Basketball recruiting has become somewhat of an afterthought since John Calipari began dominating the field.  When De’Aaron Fox committed to Kentucky last week, the BBN’s interest was once again sparked, with many turning their attention to the possibility of also landing Malik Monk, the nation’s #1 shooting guard.  Tonight rumors have swirled that Cal could land another Top 10 player tomorrow, North Carolina power forward Edrice “Bam” Adebayo.  Here’s what will happen if those rumors come to fruition.

It will be at 9:30 a.m. on Mike and Mike.

I’m being serious, ESPN’s “Mike and Mike.”  Most people don’t get up early enough to watch the syndicated show, especially teenagers, but Bam tweeted tonight that he will tell the world where he plans to attend college tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.

Bam will sign before the Fall recruiting period comes to an end.

He’s pulling the trigger the day before the early signing period comes to a close on Wednesday, letting the coach of whoever signs him John Calipari sigh with relief.

Calipari will be stealing from Mark Gottfried.

Bam has been considered an NC State lean since Dennis Smith Jr., ESPN’s #1 point guard, committed to Mark Gottfried back in September.  The AAU teammates talked very openly about being a package deal.  After Bam officially visited UK, we heard things went well, but it did not change the narrative.  The Pinetown, NC native visited Raleigh two weeks ago, but tonight many believe that it wasn’t enough for him to stay in the state.

Meanwhile, Roy Williams is wondering why none of his state’s best players are going to be Tar Heels.

It will (probably) be the best class Calipari has signed at UK.

It will surely be hyped as the best ever, but I have to add “probably” because it’s difficult for me to believe that it will Trump Wall/Cousins/Bledsoe or the Fab Five of Randle/Harrison Twins/Dakari/Marcus Lee.  But, the numbers don’t lie.

De’Aaron Fox is considered by most as the nation’s #1 point guard.  Adebayo is the consensus #3 power forward with signee Wenyan Gabriel right behind him at #4.  Those two make up an exceptional 1-2 punch, with Gabriel stretching the floor and Bam playing a traditional power forward role.  Oh, and there’s 6’10” Sacha Killeya-Jones who’s listed as a Top 10 power forward, but he possesses the athleticism to play small forward.  This doesn’t even include the possibility of landing the nation’s best shooting guard, Malik Monk.

UK fans can brag about a Bam and a Boom.

Two of the best athletes on campus will both be onomatopoeias.  Kyle Tucker’s puns will write themselves.

Adebayo will bring plenty of “Bam” to the court.

Bam’s nickname comes with the territory.  The teenager looks like he’s 30.  His strength and stature are physically imposing to his opponents.  He is destructive in the post and makes you feel sorry for the rim.  He’s also a beast on the boards, cleaning the glass with efficiency.  He’s so wide and takes up so much space in the lane, it’s nearly impossible for defenders to get around him to even try to get a rebound.  If you haven’t seen him do work yet, please take the time to do so.

Plenty of People think Bam WILL be a Wildcat

The sources close to KSR aren’t the only ones feeling good about tomorrow morning’s decision.  The 247 Crystal Ball only gives NC State a slight 55% to 45% edge, with the last 10 picks going to Kentucky.  Adam Zagoria believes UK has a “strong shot” at landing Adebayo.  Even the local papers believe Bam will be leaving his beloved home state.

Getting Adebayo is a MASSIVE steal for Calipari. If you throw in Malik Monk then the consensus best teams in America next year will be Duke #1, UK #2. Both teams will rip through college basketball, and the smart money is on for a collision course towards a Duke/Kentucky national title game. If those two teams play you might be looking at 5 of the ten top draft picks in the following NBA draft playing against each other in one game. Unbelievable…

pretty sure the consensus is that if Bam and Monk come to UK, UK will have the #1 class ahead of Duke

This is a huge get, but I’m wondering why we cooled on trying to get Thon Maker? 3 legit big guys in one class is a great problem to have

Fox, Monk, Bam, Wenyen, & Sacha is a hell of a class. But taking 5 basically ensures someone like Ulis leaves,

For my money Davis, MKG, Teague and Wiltjer was Cal’s best class.

If you’re going strictly by the numbers, then there is no way this class is better than the 2013 class. Randle was the top power forward, the Harrisons were the top point and shooting guards, Young was the number three small forward (after Wiggins and Parker) and Dakari was the top center. They were all unanimous five star prospects and ranked in the top 10 of almost every major recruiting service. That’s before you add in Marcus Lee (top 25 five star prospect) and Willis and Hawkins, the top two recruits from Kentucky.

By “the numbers” yes, but in pure talent probably not. in most classes, the super stars are usually the top 2 or 3 players. this year’s super star talent goes about 9-10 players deep, and we’d end up with 3 of those guys
