Gregg Doyel takes us home (Friday Show Thread)

It’s hard to believe Matt’s been gone for two weeks, but we survived thanks to some amazing guest hosts. Today, GREGG DOYEL will cap things off in the way only he can. Gregg’s got an excellent slate of guests lined up: Frank Vogel; Jason Delaney, Trey Lyles’ high school coach; and Gary Parrish. Maybe he’ll also explain why he’s holding a hammer in this picture at some point.

Join in on the fun by calling (502) 571-1080.

RIP… Dusty Rhodes. When Uncle Matt comes back he will be happy to know his phone lines still don’t work correctly.

Seems like the phantom line has moved from line 5 to line 3.

Ugh, listening to the formerly awesome Gregg Doyel refer to Indiana as “we” is so sad. Pretty sure no one cares about that game he’s whining about. Let it die like the UK/IU series.

Wow what a great host to pick for KSR……….NOT! Greg spent the first 15 minutes dogging the state of Kentucky. Turns radio to another station.

I have to agree with everything Gregg Doyle just said!!! It’s ashame that we as adults in this state don’t see the dis functional way we have been running our schools educational and athletic programs!! I graduated high school in 1993 and it’s been a downward spiral for years!!

This Is the worst host In the history of the show. Greg babbles to himself like Alan Cutler on cocaine.

Not high school related, but while we are on Indiana, I have to vent. I am so tired of Indiana fans whining about the UK/IU series. “Waaahh, but we have tradition with you! Waaahh but we live close to you, that should count for something! ” You know why we schedule teams like Kansas and Duke and yes, even Louisville? Because they’re good and still relevant. You want to force our hand? DO SOMETHING notable. Grab people’s attention. Stop relying on geographic privilege, it doesn’t work any more. You’re not in our state. You have no ties as alma mater to our coaches. We gain NOTHING by playing you. Win some games, change that fact, and shut the hell up.

Agreed, UK/IU was a good rivalry….. about 30 years ago. IU has sucked for the last three decades which is why we no longer bother playing them. It’s not a rivalry when one team wins 95% of the time.

When he was a national writer, Doyel wrote some of the best, most heartfelt stories out there. Now that he’s Indiana specific, it’s like he’s contaminated.

I appreciate the KY officials explanation of why the bigger arenas couldn’t be used because of the NCAA. That doesn’t excuse $25 to Transy. Since uofl has the YUM! as an official home court, can’t this game be played in Freedom Hall? That’d be closer to Indiana fans too……..
