Greek center Georgios Papagiannis says Kentucky is still on his list

A while back, I told you about Greek big man Georgios Papagiannis. The 7’1″ 235 lbs. center is currently playing in the U19 World Championships in Crete, Greece, where he’s talking to reporters about his plan for the future. Kentucky contacted Papagiannis several months ago to see if he’s interested in attending college in the States, and this afternoon, he told Draft Express’ Jonathan Givony that college is still an option and Kentucky, NC State, and St. John’s are on his list.

Back in April, Papagiannis said he would decide in June whether or not to keep playing basketball in Greece (he signed an amateur deal last summer) or play college basketball in the States. If he does come to the States, he’d be in the 2015 class. Is there still a chance Cal could add another player to this year’s roster? It wouldn’t hurt to have another big guy in the middle until Wynyard comes in December.

I’m skeptical, but let’s watch him work anyways.

That’s a big load for a kid turning 18 on Friday! The ideal gift for him would be to sign with UK on that day.

We are going to need some beef inside for physical games so hopefully he joins the team

I can’t wait to coach this kid this year at Kentucky. You’re welcome BBN, I’m coming home right after Cal takes the Kings job next week!

7/10 troll job just because the Travis Ford name gave me a chuckle.

This must be what Matt slipped up on today’s show. Did anyone else catch that?

His comments for a couple weeks now have hinted an one more player out there. Not sure about a specific comment in the show yesterday, but I’ve been getting that vibe.

Take the kid. If Tyler can teach him how to jump a little higher, he may be a lottery pick.

being that I’m half Kentucky “hillbilly” and half Greek, I’d love to see the kid in a UK uniform…my cousins live on Crete and I brought them some UK jerseys some years back…so maybe my cousins can convince Georgios (interestingly enough one of my cousins name as well) that the BBN is EVERYWHERE…

Runs the floor…jumps decent for his size…blocks out…sets picks (moving ones mostly LOL)…blocks shots…can shoot from 15 feet away? Can’t imagine why we’d want such a “project” (obvious sarcasm). Give him jersey #9 (and us banner #9).

I would take this kid right now. A solid big man who knows how to score is a premium. One of our weaknesses last year was, outside of KAT, none of our bigs could consistently score unless it was a dunk. He may not set the world on fire this upcoming season, but he already has a great skill set to build on.

Time to hear whether PapaG has made his decision……………and Cal going up against Slice for this big man.

I like our chances, especially with Murray and if you looked at our post players, you know we have room for another big man.

Why are his highlights, only of him setting screens? Lol I think the Greeks are confused about what skills basketball scouts are looking for.
