Golf comes back a week from today (Lets Gooooooooooooooooooo)

COVID-19 kept the PGA Tour down for three months, but in one week we will have live golf on our televisions again. (The real kind, not the Peyton Manning/Tom Brady kind.)

Thursday, June 11 is the official restart date for the PGA with a loaded field for the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. There won’t be fans, but that’s more than OK for all of us who weren’t planning on attending anyway. We need sports back and golf is the biggest to return to its (somewhat) regularly scheduled programming.

As for how the PGA will return, expect social distancing on the course. The golfers and caddies themselves will be tested upon arrival, and if anyone tests positive for coronavirus, they must take a mandatory WD and head home to quarantine.

To see who will be teeing it up in the Charles Schwab, you can see the entire field here. Tiger Woods fans shouldn’t get their hopes up, but there’s no shortage of non-Tiger star power. The top five players in the world have signed up, including World No. 1 golfer Rory McIlroy, as well as many more names golf fans will recognize. It’s a field comparable to a major tournament because everyone is eager to get back to competitive golf.

The rest of the 2019-20 PGA Tour schedule looks like this:

June 11-14: RBC Canadian Open | St. George’s G&CC, Toronto, ON, Canada

June 25-28: Travelers Championship | TPC River Highlands, Cromwell, CT

July 2-5: Rocket Mortgage Classic | Detroit Golf Club, Detroit, MI

July 9-12: TBD

July 16-19: The Memorial Tournament | Muirfield Village GC, Dublin, OH

July 23-26: 3M Open | TPC Twin Cities, Blaine, MN

July 30-August 2: Barracuda Championship | Tahoe Mt. Club (Old Greenwood), Truckee, CA
July 30-August 2: Olympic Men’s Golf Competition | Kasumigaseki Country Club, Saitama, Japan

Aug 6-9: PGA Championship | TPC Harding Park, San Francisco, CA

Aug 13-16: Wyndham Championship | Sedgefield CC, Greensboro, NC

Aug 20-23: The Northern Trust | TPC Boston, Norton, MA

Aug 27-30: Olympia Fields CC (North), Olympia Fields, IL

Then the 2020-21 schedule begins the second weekend of September with the Safeway Open. Other key dates on the fall schedule are:

Sept 17-20: US Open | Winged Foot GC, Mamaroneck, NY

Sept 25-27: Ryder Cup | Whistling Straits, Kohler, WI

Nov 12-15: The Masters | Augusta National, Augusta, GA

My mind still can’t process the Masters in November, but it’s right on par for 2020.
