Ben Simmons is a punk. “Make” you sign autographs? You should want to have fans son. LSU was terrible with him and will be terrible without him.

Yup, and Johnny Jones can’t coach his way out of a paper bag. All that talent that they had down there the past couple of years, and nothing to show for it. No wonder the SEC (besides UK) is the laughingstock of college BB.

Agree with both of you. You could look at LSU last season and tell their players didn’t like each other and had no sense of team unity. Even with our struggles last year, our team was still more fun to watch and more together as a team.

    • runningunnin.454

You would think this would be a cautionary tale to top basketball recruits that even consider going to a football school.

    • J-Dub421
      10:53 am November 2, 2016 Permalink

Also, look at Simmons. He’s the exact same player now that he was when he started at LSU. He did not develop AT ALL.

Then look at say, Jamal Murray. He improved by leaps and bounds during his one season at UK. Sometimes towards the end of the season I like to look at a few highlights from the beginning of the season. Our players visibly improve from the start of the season to the finish, sometimes at an astonishing rate. Cal is far and away the best at preparing his players for the NBA.

    • runningunnin.454
      11:09 am November 2, 2016 Permalink

Exactly, J-Dub; if you watched our new freshmen in the HS all-star games, you can already see improvement and increased confidence in their game. Hopefully our youth won’t preclude a tournament run…I would really, really like to keep a class this for two years. I think the country would be amazed at what Cal could do with two years.

Why is everyone automatically putting Alabama in the SEC title game? They have to play in Death Valley, the most challenging in environment in the country, with a true freshman QB that is inconsistent throwing the ball, and then they have to play Auburn who is playing as well as anyone. They could very well lose both of those games. Even if they lost just 1 of those games, Auburn or LSU would have the tie-breaker over them and can still get in over them.

    • ukjaybrat
      10:30 am November 2, 2016 Permalink

It is correct that alabama still has to play two good teams. but LSU still has to play @TAMU and Auburn still has to play @BAMA. both of those teams have tough schedules too, it’s not just Alabama.

No one is saying that BAMA will definitely be in the sec title game, but until they aren’t, they basically are. they are the best team in the country much less that division and they can lose a game and still get there imo

    • Laker Cat 18
      10:37 am November 2, 2016 Permalink

If no one else will say it, I will. “Alabama will be in the SEC championship game and the National championship game.” Mark it down. It will happen. You can tell folks Laker Cat 18 said so.

    • PretendRyan, hello? It’s because they’re there almost every year.

Have you seen Bama play? Did you see what their defense did to Leanord Fournette last year? Some are saying this year’s defense is their best ever. Once they ate UT and A&M’s collective lunches, that pretty much solidified their favorite status.

Look, upsets happen, but until someone beats Bama, they SHOULD be favored to win the whole thing. And remember, it’s just an opinion. That’s what polls are about.

It’s funny we have people getting excited and commenting on baseball only now on the eve of the 7th game between two teams you have to love.
By the way, chris, did you see pete rose on the post game show? Thought he looked bad; but, still has a quick wit. Thought MLB really treated him badly.

    • I loved Pete back in the day, along with Morgan, Bench, Perez, etc. (was thrilled that I got to see a couple Reds games when I was like 7-9 years old), but I’m afraid he made his own bed. He would be in the HOF if he would have just stopped gambling, and lying about it.

    • And yeah, I’ve seen some of his post game stuff. I frankly didn’t know he was on Fox until the series started. Is he on all the time, or just the series?

    • runningunnin.454

Don’t know; last night was the first time I’d seen Rose in ages…I thought it had something to do with the life time ban; and, yeah, he messed up; but, when you have players abusing cocaine and the like, and you have players using steroids for an advantage skewing the record books, I just thought his punishment was somewhat draconian.

Georgia is only a 2.5 point favorite. That tells me that Vegas is starting to believe in blue as well. I expected to be about a 6 point dog this week.

Georgia lost by 14 to a team who drilled us by 38. We have improved and they have regressed a bit, but I still expected to be a fairly significant underdog this week. Since they did not show us love for MSU or Missouri specifically. They did not play Florida terribly. The only team that has really beat them down has been Ole Miss.

    • RealCatsFan
      11:18 am November 2, 2016 Permalink

LC, I would like to think that if UK played Florida today it would at least be a much more competitive team. That UK team that Florida played was still reeling from the loss the week before, and since that time the defense seems to have stepped up considerably, the O-line has toughened up, and we have developed some big offensive playmakers.

    • RealCatsFan

I agree with that RCF. I was only stating that Vegas hasn’t shown us love with lesser opponents, so I don’t really understand why they would against Georgia. Bottom line is that the Cats are now starting to turn some heads, specifically in Vegas.

I would LOVE for today’s UK team to get another crack at Florida. Our defense would give them problems now that we have it figured out. We would still have problems scoring though. It might be a 9-7 game one way or the other.

The stars are aligned for the Cubs to win (108 stitches on the baseball and it has been 108 years since the Cubs won a World Series), even though I really don’t care who wins. This has been one of the best series in a long long time!

“We’ve said it a lot, but one thing John Calipari does well is find players who are quality kids, understand the system, and hold up their part of the bargain if they do go pro after one year. The Ben Simmons experiment is yet another reminder of that.”
~ from the ben simmons one and done article

I wonder if this has something to do with a lot of the recruits cal *doesn’t* get.
Every year it seems like we lose a bunch of really good recruits and some of them turn out to be D-bags like simmons. yet, almost all of the players we have gotten are really great guys or at the very least, just don’t get into trouble.

I wonder if Cal has some recruiting tactic that weeds out these guys or turns them away from the program. I understand he is brutally honest with them. “UK isn’t for everyone” and “You will go to class” etc… i wonder if that’s enough for players like simmons to say, “ok i’ll just go play for LSU, not go to class in the spring and who cares?”

It’s funny though that UK is the target for the critics when it comes to one and done players but it seems like us and Duke are the only programs doing it “the right way”

    • Realme
      10:46 am November 2, 2016 Permalink

Cal is definitely paying attention to character. He specifically says he watches how recruits treat their moms. It is fairly rare that we “lose” a recruit and still regret it later. Cal also does a better job of helping his guys prepare for success and learn to use it to help others than other coaches imo.

    • J-Dub421
      10:48 am November 2, 2016 Permalink

I have always assumed Cal is just a good judge of people and can read people well. Every so often Cal will quietly stop recruiting someone. You hear recruits say things like “Well, I haven’t talked to the Kentucky coaches in a while….” Cal is too classy to put a kid on blast, but he will just stop recruiting them sometimes.

You can tell a lot about the character of a player by talking to their parents. I have contact with college volleyball coaches, and many have told me that they will pass on a promising prospect if their parents look like they will be a major distraction.

  8. Someone tell Matt that when he refers to guys like Turkey Hunter, he might want to pause and explain who that is to the newbies. 🙂

Or, he could have one of those “About” pages to list them all.

Some people he refers to by just nickname because they don’t want or need to be addressed by their real name on the radio. But, I always wondered why KSR didn’t have an About page to introduce everyone on staff. I see a writer every once in a while that i have no idea who they are or where they came from.

    • Right, and I know some of those guys like him and “Fake Gimel” wrote for the site in the early days, so I think it would be cool if he had a rundown of them.

BTW, how many here have read the site from the beginning, or close? I came across it right after UK hired BCG, and so some of those characters were still writing. I know Fake Gimel was, and I think Turkey Hunter was, or they at least referred to him a lot.

    • ukjaybrat
      11:47 am November 2, 2016 Permalink

I am offended by “police brutality and systemic racism”.
I am also offended by the manner in which kaepernick chose to voice his frustration.

He even said he did not want to stand for the anthem of a country who does that to black people (in so many words).
It’s not “the country” it’s a few bad eggs. Not every black person is a criminal and not every cop is racist. the sooner EVERYONE understands that, the quicker we can move to a better place in this country.

    • Laker Cat 18
      11:49 am November 2, 2016 Permalink

Police brutality is unfortunate. 1% ruin it for the rest in blue. With that said, the #1 reason that it occurs isn’t because of racism. It is because the suspect does not comply. If a white guy doesn’t comply, a cop is going to make him. That happens daily, the reason we don’t hear about it is because the media loves to blow up racism.

    • J-Dub, I don’t believe it’s fair to use the word “systemic”. Just because something exists doesn’t make it systemic. There are bad people in every profession, but most don’t carry the kind of responsibility that being a cop does.

    • J-Dub421
      11:58 am November 2, 2016 Permalink

Both valid points. The rest of the good cops need to quit protecting the bad ones though. Also, my systemic racism point goes beyond police officers. African Americans routinely get harsher sentences for the same crimes compared to caucasians, and they also get policed more.

Whether or not one agrees with the method of Kapernick’s protest, he does have the right to peacefully protest. Richie Farmer went to jail for embezzlement, etc. and Michael Porter had an affair with a 15 year old girl (gross!). I dislike them, but I’m still a UK fan. People who have stopped watching the NFL because of Kapernick peacefully protesting while ignoring dudes like Josh Brown who beat the crap out of his wife are foolish.
