Four-star wide receiver decommits from Kentucky

When Jermaine Eskridge committed to Kentucky over the summer, we knew it was far from a sure thing. Eskridge is only a sophomore in high school, and though he said he planned to attend UK for college, early commitments rarely pan out.

Well today, the somewhat expected news came out that Eskridge has decommitted from Kentucky and reopened his recruitment. The four-star wide receiver in the 2018 class had this message for the UK coaching staff on Twitter:

At the time of his commitment, Eskridge was the ninth prospect to commit to UK in the month of July. It was an unprecedented month for the staff, although a lot of it was based on momentum. It’s not a shock to see the youngest of that bunch reconsider his decision.

Good luck to the young man. Hopefully he keeps the Cats in mind going forward.

This guy was going to decommit regardless. Getting spanked the last 3 games only expedited it.

The least surprising thing ever. Folks, never get too excited about a “commitment” from a kid three years out.

He used Kentucky as a prop during his time of ineligibility. Never really felt he was coming our way.

But hey, isnt that all your “@BallBlog_Chad” Twitter account is for, too? Just retweeting everyone else? 😉

yes, it’s always better to give credit to whomever your stealing material from. KSR learned that lesson too.

Will Kentucky football ever get over the hump? Thank goodness for basketball.

I can’t blame the young man because if Stoops cannot find some consistency on the back half of our schedule, he may not be here to even coach Eskridge.

It’s Ky football, If Stoops coached Louisville he would be undefeated. Why would any one want to be the football coach at Ky.

Say what you will, but not just fans are noticing the regression this team has taken. Recruits are too. It’s not about the 4 losses in a row and who they were to. It was that the losses were BLOWOUTS. I’m tired of excuses from Stoops. Less excuses and more owning up to delivering a crappy product on the field the last half of the season.

Alrighty now, lets move on and start recruiting possession receivers that actually catch the ball. I’m thinking that we can find this type of recruit at the 2 star level, players that actually want to play and get better.

I agree. Kentucky does not have a possession receiver. A bunch of guys who can run fast are not worth a damn if they cannot catch the ball.
The award for the best receiver is named after who? Fred Biletnikoff, who probably never ran under a 5 second 40 his whole career.

All he did is make Florida State and Oakland win!

What we really need to recruit is some talent on the offensive and defensive lines. Nothing else good will happen without some help in these areas.

Let your yes be yes and your no be no. “Commitments” are a total farce today; maybe adults should try teaching that commitment doesn’t mean “Sure…for now…while it’s convenient”.

“Commitments” mean nothing to the fans or coaches. commitments are for the player himself. All it basically means he doesn’t want to be bothered by other coaches and they should leave him alone. the coaches whom he is committed to still need to court him or he’s going to leave.

The LOI is the only thing that is binding.
