Four-star guard granted release from Duke commitment

One of the top-ranked guards in the 2019 class is back on the market after parting ways with Duke on Thursday.

Boogie Ellis, the sixth-ranked combo guard in the 247 Composite Rankings, was granted a release from his Letter of Intent to play for the Blue Devils. Ellis was the first to commit to Duke’s No. 1 class back in November, but for whatever reason, had a change of heart this spring. There is some early speculation that the return of Tre Jones and the addition of Cassius Stanley, another shooting guard, may have pushed him away.

Memphis will be one of the first schools to contact Ellis, if it hasn’t already. Memphis was a finalist for Ellis the first time around and Penny Hardaway will be involved once again in Round 2 of Ellis’ recruitment.

The question for us here in Kentucky is, what does this mean for RJ Hampton?

If Memphis goes after Ellis, it may mean Hardaway isn’t confident in landing Hampton. That would be good news. But with a new spot open at Duke, do we worry Hampton may reconsider? He cut Duke from his list earlier this week.

There are a lot of ways this can play out and some of them can affect Kentucky’s shot at Hampton. I doubt there will be much interest between Kentucky and Ellis.

Can’t see Hampton reconsidering Duke because Ellis is not going there. It removes a guard but K doesn’t play his bench players that much and Ellis would have been a role player if he stayed.

I feel like we need a player we can call Boogie, now that DeMarcus Cousins has opted out.

I hear ya CC.. but it’s hard to imagine another player with that title. We might need to retire it. Now that I think of it, didn’t he kinda not like “Big Cuz”? Maybe I’m mistaken on that. Anyway…

Yeah, I realized just as I hit the “post comment” button I should have specified basketball player.

I’m pretty sure K went after him because his nickname is Boogie, he’s copied everything else Cal has done.

Is this a case of Penny recruiting a signed player? Somewhat similar to him recruiting a committed DJ Jeffries? Or could it be Duke making room for Hampton? Or is it all just a coincidence?? Things that make you say hmmmm…..
If we cant have Hampton, I’d rather see Boogie at Duke and Hampton at Memphis than the other way around.

Jones needs the ball in his hands and he is a Shitshevski favorite. Hampton wants the ball in his hands and 20 shots a game. Not a doubt in my mind Shitshevski moved Boogie off the roster, and will lie to get Hampton, onboard.
Penny will or is offering the keys to Hampton at Memphis, and with the cloud hanging over the Gayhawks, I think he signs with Memphis.

    If he starts at
    Tech he’s the star
    Memphis he’s the other guy
Kentucky he’s the guy who earned it
Duke he’s just another dude that Count Ketchup will make look overrated

Idk why, but Count Ketchup made me laugh prolly a little too much.

Some great new names for the Vampire in Durham – “Shitshevski”, “Coach Ketchup”… Goes along with Coach Buy-A-Vowel and Coach Gesundheit. In any case, it looks like we finally have a player who managed to not look into the gaze of the 400-year-old vampire.

It’s only fitting that the absolute worst writer in KSR history is constantly writing about a team no one here cares about.

That the troll no one here cares about is complaining about it makes this the trifecta of suck.

Drew is FAR from the worst, he’s actually quite good and witty. Also, have you not read a Roush article? Dude thrives on hyperbole and can’t firm basic sentences. He also misquotes things and gets numbers and facts wrong all the time.

Worst? You ARE a special one.

Wow, and Nick has put out a few really great biographies.

Worst writers on KSR are no longer here.

There was a dude Corey who did the daily for quite a while but no writer on here has seen even 1/10 of the abuse.
      Deservedly so.

All but guarantee this is a case of Coah K pushing out Ellis in order to make room for Hampton. Wait and see, the duffel bags are flying out the door at the Duke athletic department.

Why would he have been worried about Boogie Ellis? Hampton would have started at Duke no matter who was there.
