One of Kentucky’s top targets made a surprising revelation Monday night.
While meeting with media members at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta, defensive tackle Dallas Walker said he will announce his college decision today, choosing between Kentucky, Texas A&M and Auburn.
The decision comes less than two weeks after Walker officially visited UK. His only other official was to A&M, a school who only recently began heavily pursuing the four-star athlete.
Walker’s comments to Woody Wommack make it seem like the Cats are the team to beat.
“I just took my official visit up there. I thought it went well,” he said. “I enjoyed talking with the coaching staff and the environment. I spent a little time with the players and everything. I liked the facilities and everything like that. They have Justin Rogers committed and they told me that I would fit well with him because I’m versatile and I can play defensive end and defensive tackle. They said they really love my character, too, they said it’s more than just football. I’ve really enjoyed it every time I’ve been up there and with them winning a lot of games now it shows they are going in the right direction.”
If UK lands Walker, they’re getting an incredibly explosive 6’4″ 300-pound athlete, ranked by Rivals as the No. 20 defensive tackle and No. 243 player in the country. It also would put UK in unfamiliar territory in the recruiting world. The Cats have been finalists for prospects announcing at All-American Games, but have never successfully pulled in a player at an elite recruiting event. That kind of PR resonates with the rest of the recruits in attendance, guys like Enzo Jennings and Dekel Crowdus.
Kentucky could enter rarified air at today’s Five-Star Challenge. Stay tuned.
